"Guiding" patina?

I also agree with Jeff's advice to immediately force a patina on a work knife, love the damascus look of his, and would ALSO love to see the after picture of that 14 flitzed. That all rusted up one is making me sad :(

I don't fret too much over pepper spots or rust forming on a user, just something that is bound to happen. When it does, some fine steel wool and mineral oil takes care of the problem and leaves the patina behind. Works great in the blade wells too. That is about all my knives get treated to at the end of the week, other than a touch up and some oil in the pivot.

Just use it and wipe it off. No need for anything special. Humans have been using steel for a long time. I can't imagine our grandfathers worrying much about it or taking pics of tools to put in the internet. It's just a knife. We've become pretty wimpy.

Whimpy or not I respect and take care of my knives. I don't have enough money to buy nice knives and then just let them rust down.
