Are you openly scornful of knives made under conditions you disagree with, but have a favorite/pet brand or knife? I do, Rough Ryder, prefer it to new Case for a quarter the price (change my mind, Case, I wanted to love you!) and my 10V Kizer.
Do you hate linerlocks but have one you just love? I will never not love the RAT folders, even got custom maple scales for one and cannot wait to score an S35VN model eventually when I can.
Do you extoll the virtues of sensible carry but cannot keep yer mits off an Espada XL? Or maybe a traditional guy who loves that compression lock? Maybe you think United Cutlery rules? Do you buy a 10 dollar Ali PM2 just to compare, even though you know you should not give em a dime?

"Confess" here!

When I was in college I would enjoy trolling the Cold Steel fanboys from time to time; for some reason there seemed to be a contingent that was easily wound up and didn't have much of a sense of humor. But the other day I checked my spreadsheet and realized I somehow have more Cold Steel knives than any other brand lol.

I keep purchasing traditionals, but I almost never carry them because a modern 3"~3 1/2" folder that lock, which I can open and close one handed, slim and light with a pocket clip is so, so, so much more practical.

Same with fixed blades. I have them stored everywhere, in multiple location in my jeep, in my toolboxes, in my fishing tackle box, in my boat etc. But when I need a knife, I just slide out the modern folder out of my pocket 99% of the time.

The worst is, I don't think that will change anytime soon.

I love this - there are a ton of overly serious fans of this type for each brand but CS was one of the funniest. I also note that Cold Steel is not only the third most owned brand in my collection (behind Victorinox and no.1 Spyderco) but I have many multiples, 5 different XL Espadas from the original hollow groun AUS-8 to two of the modern, the XHP fancy (and a Large that matches, both with leather dhmm) as well as an S35VN fancy... Makes me feel a bit of a nut lol
Daggers. I don’t have a single reason to own one but when I pick up something like My Cold Steel Tai Pan in beautiful San Mai steel and wear it around the house in the custom leather sheath I had made for it, it gives me a cheap thrill 🤷‍♂️
Daggers are just cool!! And honestly - before lost my little Microtech UTX-75, it's thin and dual sided blade was great for the exact piercing I would be needing to do as well as cutting both ways whenever needed. Speed of deployment was a big factor too, never thought it would make much of a real world difference but I loved it's easy in-out feel and small size. Sorry for the no tangent haha

Would love a Tai Pan, need a few basics and classics yet!

Getting three or four of the same knives. Spending wealth on overbuilt knives, which is far from practical. Always chasing a stronger and unbreakable knife, but knowing that I will never use it. There hasn't been a knife I've abused for a long time, except for the ones I made myself.

Guilty pleasures?
Guilty as charged!
In fact: those are the knives that comprise the bulk of my collection!

Not sure if this is a guilty pleasure per say but I find plastic handles quite appealing lot of times. Mora and Victorinox fruit knives come to mind. Maybe it’s appreciation of functional and practical who knows..

Not sure if this is a guilty pleasure or not, but I won’t even consider a knife unless I think it’s aesthetically pleasing (I.e. it has to look good). If I think something is ugly, there are no other features that would ever make it buyable for me.

Fortunately there are plenty of knives that I think look good, so I don’t have to worry about missing out in features or functionality.
