Well I have for your consideration today just such items. 3 fountain pens and 3 mechanical pencils. These are new old stock, never used promotional items made for the Guinness Beer company. Now, are they gold nibbed Mont Blanc quality pens? Of course not! Stainless steel probably nibs, although I can't be sure. These were fun give away promo items, but are fully functional never the less. They take standard refill cartridges and lead for the pencils.
