Just got back from Guitar Center, where I can't believe what I did.

Not knowing diddly about guitars, and little about amps. I believe I did ok. The guitar is a Schecter Diamond series, and as you can tell, is gorgeous. The amp is a Crate 15 watt tube amp. Plenty loud for my purposes. My Son tried it out, and he loves it! Believe me, you don't wanna hear me attempting to play it! But, I will learn.

Cool, welcome to the world of guitars! I just wish I had the time to play mine as often as I'd like.

Btw, http://www.harmony-central.com/ is a great site for equipment reviews.

You done real good Danbo. Is that for your boy?

Nice combo. If it's for the boy he's got a super dad! If it's for you then you are starting with a heckuva combo!

This one is for me. :)

Last year, I got my Son one. Does anybody know much about this particular guitar? The store told me they sell a lot of these.

That wood would look pretty nice on a knife handle....
Hey, good luck with the guitar, they sure are fun to mess around with, but if you try to ever become a good guitarist, ya gotta practice practice practice.... cuts into your grinding time!

I had a crate solid-state amp, quite nice. Amazing just how little was in there...power source, a circuit board, and a speaker!

There is nothing like the sound of over driven tube finals! Makes me think of those big ass Marshalls that everyone used when I was a kid. Jimi really sounded sweet through those. A little Fender Twin Reverb would sound sweet as well. Just not enough balls for the Gym or outside at a stadium.

You did good Danbo. Schecter is one of the smaller manufacturers but they make a real nice guitar. They have been gaining popularity lately with some of the heavier bands.

Hey Danbo, I didn't know you played! Looks like you got a sweet one there, though I've never tried a Schecter. I play bass (Ibanez) and acoustic guitar (Larrivee) myself.

Turn it up . . . to 11! :D

I don't have the slightest clue as to how to play, but I always wanted to try. :)

Yeah, Schecter's are among the nicest of the 'affordable' guitars out there. Same goes for Crate amps.

You really can't go wrong with either, especially as a beginner. And if, in the future, you decide you'd prefer something else, both of those items should hold their value pretty well if you decide to 'trade up' to something else.

Good luck,

-John

sweet deal. i just got a new guitar myself- a gibson les paul studio for 500 bucks. good deal, right? its only four months old and still has warranty at sam ash. i play through a mesa dual rectifier and a marshal cab, so im all set for equipment

Marshall's the goods, but love the Crate! :D

When I was younger I used to play in a band (drums), and my buddies used Crates, and they rocked -- especially for their price.

We did get to play on a 5150 (I believe that's what they're called, been a long time) set once though, and that rumbled the whole house. :D

Yeah tube amps are the best for tone. I play harmonica(not as much as I used to though...), and if you want the best tone you have to use a tube amp. I have a small Fender Blues Junior that's really nice. My dream amp would be a Fender Bassman( http://www.fender.com/gear/gear.php?partno=0217100000 ), A Sonny Jr.( http://www.island.net/~blues/sonny.htm ), or a Victoria 4X10( http://www.victoriaamp.com/45410.html ).

Some years ago, when I was playing a lot, I had a subscription to Guitar Player magazine.

They said that the popularity of tube amps caused a bit of a problem, as hardly anyone was producing vacuum tubes anymore.

The Russians came to the rescue; they were still using tubes in various military applications, since they were pretty much EMP-proof.

At least a couple of amp makers started importing nicely-made Russky tubes.

Nice guitar !!

I see that they "threw in" a gig bag too.

Buy a quality hardcase ASAP. Gig bags are a amlost worthless and MIGHT protect it from scratches. Spend the $$ to protect it.

BEAUTIFUL !!!!

hi, gents!
if i may, i'd like to stick my nose in here momentarily.
first off, i've been a drummer for 34 years, professionally for 27 of them. now i know that generally a drummer offering his opinion to most guitar players is the equivalent of him wizzing in their cornflakes, but if i may offer a different perspective...
well, firstly, very nice choice for a schechter and a rig. great stuff for the money.
honestly i don't know if it's my old age or what, but as much as i like the sound of tube-driven marshalls, i DO NOT miss having 3 8x10 stacks on either side of my riser. mind you when there was playing going on, it was great, but man, when no guitar was playing, and the drums being in the back (where i'm sure most guitarists feel is where drums belong)next to the backline, and the backline volume is set to romulan stun, it's like being on the main tarmack of l.a.x.
please don't misunderstand, i love guitars. i have a 1950 gibson es-140, a 1961 rickenbacker 450, and a '66 gretsch tenessean, and i love them to death. i just envy you guitar players to be able to walk away from the noise that a marshall generates so noticeably when no axe is going on. i guess the adage is true. "if it's too loud, you're too old." before i go take out my teeth and change my depends ("grampers"), here's my favorite drummer joke. sorry if you've already heard it.

Q:what did the drummer get on his i.q. test?
A:saliva

great drummer joke. just sent it to my favorite drummer.

Here's one I've always enjoyed:

Q - What do you call a guy who plays with a bunch of musicians?

A - The Drummer!

and remember:

Bassists have bigger instruments!

-John

Musician jokes?

oh yeah!

How do you get a bass player off your doorstep?

Pay him for the pizza!

How do you know when the stage is level?

Drool is coming out of both sides of the drummer's mouth.

How many guitar players does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Three. One to do it, and two others to stand around saying "I can do that...I can do that..."

What's the difference between a keyboard player and a corpse?

The keyboard player is on the OUTSIDE of the box...

And finally, being a vocalist...

What do you call a vocalist without a girlfriend?

Homeless...

:D :p :D
