Guitar, just to own one

Just go on craigslist and find an old Marshall cab, a beat up Gibson SG, and an original Peavey Butcher head. Play it loud.

The strings are just as important as the body you're slapping them on. I am a D'adarrio and Blue Steel freak, ribbon and round wound for that extra muddy sound. Of course, I'm a bass player, so my tastes are different. I've had the same Peavy Fury since high school (15+ years!) and I can't tell you how may times I've had the neck straightened out because i left the strings on too long but she still puts out some great sounds.
