Guitar thread!! let see what ya play

I hope this works! My first time trying to post a pic. :)

I bought my actual guitar maybe 8 years ago.

It's a Cort Viva Series, similar design than Ibanez S series, but a little thicker. Served me well. I just changed the pickups to a Duncan JB on the bridge and a DiMarzio PAF on the neck. I use Dean Markley's nickel-steel 0.10 strings.

I used to play with a DOD multieffect, but now I really got away from it and only use overdrives: a DOD Malmsteen signature and the good old Tube Screamer

When my Marshall Valvestate 20 died, one week before a show, I had to find a new one fast, the best deal I had was on a Fender Princeton 65. My only regret is that this one only has 2 channels, I should've get 3 (clean, dirty, solo).

I play less and less since I got in college :(

I guess no one plays classical? I have a Ramirez R2 and a 1969 Ramirez Estudio. Gotta get back into playing.

An original 63 Hummingbird and a Gretsch Irish Falcon are my two main guitars. A rosewood J45, and various other Gibson acoustics and electrics get some play time. A 57 P Bass (reissue), Alvarez mandolin, garage sale quality banjo and a bunch that are too ugly to mention. Latest & greatest find is a Martin D-28 12 string. Needs a little bit of fret work but I got it for $200.

I've never owned a Tele but I want to. I'm afraid I'll want to buy more than one. :o

Great thread! I've been through a lot of guitars over the years (I've been playing for 18 years now). At this point I've sold off and narrowed down and currently own the three best guitars of my life so far. I'm playing a Fender American Telecaster, a G&L S-500, and a Fender Standard Jazz bass- all lefties.

The G&L is amazing- it's the best guitar I've ever played. Sounds awesome! Good G&Ls (the American ones) are kinda hard to find- especially lefties, but man do they shred!

My biggest regret in regards to guitars was leaving behind my vintage '74 Fender Bassman stack. That was the most awesome amp ever, and I just gave it away. The thing was humongous, though, I had nowhere to put it. Now I have to make do with a little Roland POS. Actually I play through a little VOX headphone amp most of the time. God, I miss the roar of that Bassman!

I love my Tele, too. It's one of the brand-new 2008 models, with the amazing fretboards. It's sooooo comfy to play. It's a toss up for me which guitar I love more, the G&L or the Tele. The G&L sounds so cool and the action is so light, but the tele looks cooler, and the fretboard handles like a dream.

You can see the guitars here:

Go easy on my boy, he's only about 2 days old in that pic, and his head is still all squished. The wooden case behind the guitars? That baby's crammed full of knives.

Forgot to add: The first distortion I ever got, and still have and sometimes use.

A Danelectro Fab Tone. Amazing sound for the price.

Only have one guitar.
Martin D-18.
Bought it in 1963 for $90.
With a wood case and an extra set of strings.

There's something magical about a mahogany guitar. I've had the opportunity to play a number of vintage D-18s and have loved them all. I hope it brings you many years of joy.

I had a D-18 I bought around 1977 or so. 600.00 new.... I recently looked at what they're bringing now and realize I should have kept it.
Had the opportunity to play a few vintage Martins; one of our regulars had a just-post-war D28; still had the two-piece back. Great instrument; sadly stolen.

Another fellow had a 3-piece-back D-28 of 60s vintage; a very powerful instrument that you could literally feel working. Bit bass-heavy though; I understand many pickers who liked the rosewood instruments for live playing preferred the mahogany D-18s for recording.

Got a Yamaha 12 string from a "music pawn shop" for $150 in 1988 (solid spruce top). Cost another 60 or so to get it in shape. Our pastor played it during our wedding. I was informed in no uncertain terms that that guitar WILL be passed on to the kids;)

Also have a banjo-mandolin, Sears Silver tone baritone Ukulele and a Banjo of indeterminate make (family bought it used while in Arkansas).

Haven't played much in the last 8 years (kids and work), but like everyone else, need/want to get back into it.

New ones? Thinking a Taylor 12 string would be nice and have been toying with the idea of a resonator guitar as well.

i've managed to acquire 2 in my quest for guitar master.
old alvarez 5064
and an epiphone studio dot.
love both.

I'm a fan of the Pitchblack... Only true bypass tuner out there, for some reason. If I had that RG...My life would be complete. What kinda cables are those? They look expensive, lol. EMG's on both Deans?
Do any of you have experience with the Korg DTR1000 Digital Rack Mount Tuner?
I was thinking of getting one
Is it of the "true bypass" design?
I like the pretty blinking lights mostly ;)

I don't play -
but I do have this cheapo Squier Strat bought for all of $180 back on May/5/1995 -
SquireStrat080909.jpg

so what's so "special" about this cheapo guitar that most would merely laugh at?

well, it has a whole bunch of autographs on it -
SquireStratSig080909.jpg

SquireStratHd080909.jpg

Ok, so it's a glorified "autograph book"?

Not quite - on the very day I bought the guitar (I took a long a friend who plays and he helped me pick out one that "sounded good" - we spent over an hour at Sam Ash - but when we came across this one we both instantly knew that was it) - I went to see Big Jack Johnson and he played this Strat for the entire second set - that's his autograph with the words: "I'm the first to play this white babe - Big Jack Johnson - the Oil Man"

Others who have played this guitar are -

Sherman Robertson (who wanted me to go one the road with him, just so that he could play it - and that is despite string breaking)

Clarence Spady (who played it lots of times at Terra Blues, NYC between 1996-9, and actually recorded with it on his CD "Live at Grico's River Street Jazz Cafe")

Magic Slim

The late Sean Costello

But most of all - my all time guitar "hero" -
Hubert Sumlin -
HubertScan2.jpg

"son" and lead guitarist to Howlin' Wolf - played this on several occassions including in his hotel room where his manager and had to tell him to stop playing, and go to bed!

photo from House of Blues, Cambridge MA Jun/25/1995 - where he played with Billy Boy Arnold, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, and Calvin Jones (and this cheapo Strat) review of that gig.
