Guiveaoué II ( GAW french version) winner P4

I live only about 1 1/2 miles from the centre of one of England's biggest cities, but in a nice area, full of trees and parks, with big gardens (by English standards), and a surprising amount of wildlife :) There are a lot of young children on my street now, and they love to play outdoors, which is nice. It's a very friendly place, with a great deal of interesting history

A few photos in my garden, and from my front windows

I'm certainly IN, creative GAW and superb knife

View from one of the living room windows, a brook , small wood where Red Squirrel, Deer and Foxes dwell, beyond that arable fields for Hares, Voles, Stoats, Vipers et al. Sounds idyllic- kind of in our short nightless summer, but there are insects who enjoy it too......by the thousand :D The smell of the Pelargoniums keeps them off!

Contrasting view in April from the back door, not a leaf in sight, khaki colour, tundra like but you can get KNIFE CONTENT in the wilderness after a long cold, dark winter. Likely colder than ever next winter...

My apologies for cluttering up this great Giveaway, J-M!!!
Please carry on folks!!

I was an elderly recruit and joined when I was 33. Up until then, I was breathing "your" air and drinking "your" water. I finally did the right thing and served MY country.
Earlier and turning 18 in 1971, I had two cousins stationed in Vietnam. One Army and one Marines. Both emphatically told me not to join.
My father, a Navy vet, told me, "Son I'll support you in anything you do but please don't join the military".
The draft was still going on, but I enrolled at the University of Montevallo here in Alabama and was granted a 1-H Educational Deferment.
So it was that at 33 I talked to recruiters. Although I was a supervisor in a machine shop at the time, had a 3 BR house, car, truck, motorcycle and boat.
I aced ASFAB but was too old for most military programs and enlisted as an E-3 ... not E-1, because I had an Associate Degree.
Before joining, the recruiter came to my home, told me how big a pay cut I was about to take, looked around at my home and accoutrements and asked, "What the heck are you doing ?!?!?!"
Turns out, joining the military was absolutely the best decision I ever made in my life !!!
I was moved around a bit in the military rate-wise. Enlisted as Airman, discharged and reenlisted in boot camp as Seaman, because I was selected top 10% of recruit company and guaranteed a school.
Became a Data Systems Technician (DS). They did away with that rate in 1998 and I became an Electronics Technician (ET) for a year and then became a Fire Controlman (FC).
I passed the E-7 Chief's exams as a DS, ET and was finally tested, selected and initiated "Chief" when I became an FC and stationed in Dam Neck Virginia as an Instructor.

EDIT: I see Charlie edited his post that I quoted, and while I'll let my response stand, I too apologize for responding to off topic posts. Sorry Jean-Marc. I humbly apologize

Not an entry, as I have already been a recipient of JM's generosity, more than once!

B BrotherJim , I can't believe you have so many French knives and not a single ram horn!

I have to admit, I wish that my family and I lived in the country, but instead we have a house in the suburbs. This is the view from our front window of the dining room.

Eventually I will finish landscaping the front yard and our herd of flamingos (kind of like my knife collection..... yes there are more ) and other topiary will be mounted in the yard and not sitting on the porch.

How long do you have to leave those pink flamingos out before you win the bet? 😜

Those flamingos, along with the rest of the statues, including the statue of the little boy peeing (part of a fountain but the bowl is missing) were 100% my idea. 🤣 I even repainted those flamingos recently so that they would be ultra bright😎

I'm a big fan of the utterly ridiculous

Well done‼️

Beautiful knife and great idea for a GAW. I am not in, but I sure admire the horn and filework. Here is a shot I took last weekend. Not a view from my house, but I liked it.
