Gun Hammer Contest?

I've been trying desperately to be "Patient, Grasshopper." I am looking forward to seeing pics of that beauty (or taking them, hopefully :D)
 
The entries were a blast to read.

I've added quite a few things to my own bucket list as a result!

Can't wait to see the winner - and the knife, of course. :D
 
It's proving difficult to pick a winner especially since there were a lot more pages of entries than the last contest. Basically, Darrel, Dirk and I pick who we think has the best entry. Then we discuss a bit. Shouldn't be too much longer.
 
If it is not already busy enough for everyone during this time of year, you guys are going above and beyond. Thanks for your efforts!

Curious if there's any update. Still haven't seen pictures of the actual knife :D I saw the pictures of the similar one with the damascus blade and it's amazing.
 
There was a setback so I'm still trying to figure out. I'll ask Darrel again today.
 
Alright, well I guess I cannot keep quiet any longer since people are getting anxious. Here's the thing. None of the names people came up with were particularly pleasing to Darrel. It doesn't matter if I like some of them. I told Darrel at the end of the day, he should put a name on the knife that he's proud of since it's his creation. I think the three of us didn't realize how ambitious an undertaking it would be to name a knife. Anyway, fortunately, I'm pretty sure Darrel will move forward with the contest and just pick a winner based on the second part of the contest: what people would do given 24 hours to live. Another plus note is that, once again the three of us picked the same winner, maybe not for the corresponding place of 1st/2nd/3rd, but one name came up 3 times. You have to realize how rare this is since all of us communicate by email, me especially. Dirk is a short drive from Darrel's place. All the votes are their own and not swayed by anyone. All that is left now is to place the winners. I think first place has more or less been decided, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I've emailed Darrel/Dirk a bit the past few days, but judging by their slower response times, I think they're super packed getting ready for Shotshow that kicks off on the 12th, 3 days from now. I will do my best to find out the winner within the next 3 days.
 
Thanks Hark for keeping us posted. I definitely agree with you that Darrel should pick a name that calls to him, and if none of them call to him, I'll be excited to hear what really gets the DDR stamp of approval.

Wish I could make it out to Shot Show to meet you all. Unfortunately, this is a busy time of year for my work, and I just can't get vacation time :(
 
Cool! Let me see if I understand. You basically have 1st place decided, but are relying on the 2nd part of the contest to decide the runners up?
 
Hope you guys figure it out... Hopefully we'll hear soon though!

Personally I think that the name Gunhammer is good AS-IS... but the contest was alot of fun to participate in :)

We totally skipped the naming part since nothing came to Darrel that spoke to him. He'll come up with his own name most likely unless the 3 of us can come up with something that just clicks. The contest is now based only on the second part where people replied with what they would do given 24 hours before keeling over. We more or less picked the 1st place winner based on that part of the contest. 2nd and 3rd we're still deciding.

Waiting for Shot Show to come and go, most likely. I keep telling myself "patience, grasshopper." It's HARD though :) I'm super excited about the idea of a framelock gun hammer. It's my very favorite folder, after all. I hope whoever wins throws down a full detailed review.
 
Yeah it was odd we had too come up with a new name since gunhammer is totally fine to me, and I assume most of the people who visit this sub-forum. You could add numbers to the end to identify the generation, if you want.
