Gun Shop Impulse Buy (Buck Striders and a Bradley)

Magnets say the liners on the 882/889 are definitely steel. I guess quite a bit of the 882's liner does have a colored anodized look. I'm not sure what's going on there. I also mis-remembered the strength of one of my titanium liner locks; the 881's lock is crazy stiff. I guess I haven't owned it long enough for it to make a lasting impression yet.

The magnets don't lie. I guess Buck heat treated those liners to minimize wear.

I did learn that the FB means Factory Blem which kinda sucks but I'm still happy.

I didn't know that Buck ever sold seconds. I'm learning a ton from your gun store find!

Now I might actually carry it.

Far be it from me to dissuade a fellow knife aficionado from carrying a knife he likes, but you might want to wait until you hear back from Buck. Even as a factory blemish, it sounds rare. The Buck collectors I've met are pretty fervent in their desire for every variation of favorite models. You might have one they want in that 889, as well as that 882. (Again, I'm not a Buck collector, but I don't remember the 882 being offered in green G-10, only black and blue.)

I did post them there after I realized they were different than most others I'm seeing but I haven't really heard much more over there.

I also emailed Buck to see if they have any further info

Please keep us updated as you learn more about them. I'm definitely interested!

The Buck is really in no danger of seeing pocket time in the near future. I've been trying to buy well-used knives so I'll actually carry and use them. I recently picked up few ZTs on the Exchange (0350, 0350ST, 0550) that are seeing the most use. Even with the factory blem all these Bucks are a little too nice and collectible for me to likely carry. I doubt I'd sell them. I like to have some stuff that isn't seen everyday and I think the Bucks qualify for that. And they are examples of a Strider design (or similar to it) for which I would never fork out the money to get a real one. For now they are resting in my box of folders.

I'll be interested to hear what, if anything, Buck says about them and will update this thread with anything they tell me.

Buck's response to factory blemish warranty coverage. Good to know.
I haven't heard about my Strider-specific questions. It was a separate email.

My message:
I have a Buck Strider 889 that has FB marked on the blade. Someone told me this means "Factory Blemish". Is this knife still covered under warranty?

Response:
Yes that knife will still have the lifetime forever warranty.
