Great find !!!!!!
I bet the person selling it really didn't know what they're going for now

Never realized how overbuilt they were.

Why would you ask that? OP didn't offer the info, and it's just flat out rude to ask.
I don't think it's rude, he's just curious about how good the deal was.. the OP can decline to make the price public if he wishes. No harm done.

I'll refrain from my typical anti strider comments

Warning for off topic
Used be parents taught their kids asking such questions was rude. Matters not how curious you are.

We are on a forum where enthusiasts discuss knives.
Most enthusiasts have no problem talking about what they paid or traded for an item...it is part of the hobby.

It is not a matter of manners being taught by parents.

Bad manners would be posting pictures of dog crap in someone's camping thread...I seem to remember someone doing that...

It’s a knife forum, chief. Knives are or can be considered goods. Talking about goods can and often does involve costs. Dude’s post says “got a good buy.” Either way when a person shows you an impressive knife it’s pretty normal to inquire how much it set the person back. ...of course I come from the standpoint that we’re all friends here.

Question was asked by a paying member of the forums.
What's that have to do with the etiquette of the question?

It's about etiquette, and very basic etiquette at that. It's a rude question , especially in a venue open to the entire world. If the OP wanted you and me to know what he paid for it, he would have told us.

You're applying an etiquette that typically takes place in areas outside the realm of friends in a hobby... not hard to understand.

If a friend of mine came over and seen my new knife and asked "what did that set you back" it isn't offensive.

Funny, I looked at that same knife at the Spk gun show last fall. I think he also had a buck Strider at the time. I bought a leatherman tool from the same guy. Cool knife. Thickest knife I've ever handled.

Forums allow paying members to ask valuation related questions. Registered users are not allowed that privilege. Interpretations of "etiquette" includes silence.
And silence includes not asking questions which shouldn't be asked.

The OP didn't offer what he paid. So he's asked the question in venue open to the entire world which may make him feel as if he has been put on the spot. It's just plain rude to do that to anyone. Isn't this stuff taught anymore?
