Gun value?

Folks,
I know this is a knife forum, but it seems as though many people here also share an interest in guns, and hence the reason for my question.

I have the gun pictured below. I inherited it from my father, but for several reasons that I'll not go into here, I am considering selling it. The problem is that I know little to nothing about Browning Hi-Powers. I know there are forums dedicated to them, but I'm hoping someone here can put me in the ballpark as to the gun's value.

The gun is in very good condition. The serial number is 245PZ70094. I believe it was made in 1981 based on that serial number. It also is marked Made in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale Herstal. That literally is about the extent of my knowledge on this gun.

Can anyone offer any additional information or give me a reasonable approximate value for the gun on the secondary market to a private buyer? If sold, it will go with 5 magazines, matching tan leather Galco holster and tan dual magazine holder, also in excellent condition.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please, no offers here. I'm really just looking for info at this time.

$400 seems low to me for a high power, especially that nice stainless version.

They are one of the best 9mm's out there for sure. Love them.

My initial thought was more in the $800 range. Maybe a bit less used, but you have the clips and holster.

They are going for about 800 for the blued ones new on some sites.

Just saw a used stainless by private seller that as listed at 695.

It is low for a low round count, Belgium made one. 400 is what a low balling gun shop owner would offer you. Throw it up on gunbroker, you'll fetch more.

I was thinking 7-800, but without having the gun to inspect it is very difficult to say. I would say keep it and shoot it if it is financially feasible for you to do so. If you must sell it you will probably need a knowledgeable person to inspect it and value it for you to get the most out of your sale.

Good luck, great looking combo you have there.

Nice HP! The $700+ that other forumites have suggested sounds about right. There is not much that sells for top dollar right now.

IIRC the pistol came with two 13 round magazines so that leaves the Galco leather and three mags "extra." You will probably make a bit more if you sell them separately rather than include them with the pistol.

Just a heads up: the mag safety has been removed and it will be a plus for a potential buyer if you still have the parts.

Good luck with your sale!

. . . esp. if they are factory mags, work well, and you want to sell them to someone in a ban-state like Massachusetts. ;)

If someone wants it for $800, will you throw in the ABALE for $50 more? LOL

gun broker is what I use as a close cost on guns that I dont know what they are going for. the market changes all the time depending on what the latest coolest thing that everyone is into . here is a attachment to a one that is close to what you have . I usely see at gun shows that cost of guns are about 10 to 20 percent lower then gun broker cause of the shiping and transfer cost. hope this helps.

Browning never produced a stainless steel Hi Power.
Chrome, nickel, satin nickel, and grey are sometimes mistook as stainless.
exactly what my buddy said - and that that was an aftermarket satin chrome finish by the look of the pic.
as to lowball - he's not a dealer, and you need to take into consideration locale - and this was a request for value, not bidding. (plus the gunbroker opening bid of $750 on the example hasn't been touched, so apparently someone else thinks it's high)

with 230grains, it depends on the market that you are selling them in, gun prices are dropping in general, slowly and gradually, but they are dropping, i would say that 750. would be a fair asking price and go no lower than 700.

of course I would keep it, it is a browning, no matter if it was made in belgium or japan, the belgium guns do bring more, don't know why i have no problem buying a japan made gun, have both, can't tell the diff.
good stuff and the hi-power was a much sought after sidearm. imho

It's called the Practical. Pachmyr grips, gold trigger, matte finish...but looks like someone polished that one or had it hard chromed??? wierd IMHO.
As an original condition Belgian Practical I would put it at $600-800 in a good market. I have no idea on yours based on the curious finish.

See if the Mag safety is still in place, find out if anyone reputable has worked on it (there are a couple good Hi-Power smiths)

Go to www.1911forum.com there is a dedicated BHP forum:thumbup:

Thanks for all the help folks. I'm not sure about the finish. You'd have to have known my father, but it would be highly unusual for him to do something like refinish this weapon. He had several weapons and as best as I can see, none of them were modified in any way. Still, I will look into it a bit more.

Thank you all again! :)

I have not done any research on the timelines, all I know is that any time I've seen the gold trigger, pachmyr gripped ones they've always been referred to as the practical model (in addition to the two tone versions with the fixed sights.)

No, ********, it's not a stainless. The sights aren't even Browning, they're aftermarket Millet's, and the gun HAS been refinished. You can see in the picture that the trigger pivot pin hole has had the crap buffed out of it. That would have NEVER happened on a Browning finished gun.

I didn't have a dog in this fight, but ********s like you piss me off, shooting your mouths off, without the SLIGHTEST idea what you're talking about.

Insulting other members, and with inappropriate language WILL NOT be tolerated here. :thumbdn:
Think twice before shooting your mouth off in this Forum...
