It's accurate but irrelevant. De-ionized water will indeed not conduct electricity. You don't need to test a toaster in a bathtub. You can easily buy deionized water and insert probes from continuity/conductivity tester. You can see it start to get conductive as it is exposed to air.Speaking of science- water can be the de-ionized type. My high school science teacher theorized that you could take a bath in de-ionized water, drop a plugged in toaster in the water and not get electrocuted due to it not conducting electricity. In theory. He did not test this theory.
What this has to do with particles clumping, I don't know. Just throwing it out there.
I agree that the prices are a bit bonkers. I get better results with the oil-based compounds for jewelry polishing. 5g syringe costs $11-12 and is enough to load a good-sized strop probably 8-10 times. But I suspect there's an individual component to all this as well. GJ and Stroppy Stuff are way more aggressive than the syringe stuff, so it could be the case that folks with a more deft touch get better results with it.I just use demineralized water to make my stropping sprays and have not seen any issues with how they polish the bevel, down to .1 micron. I like to know what I am working with, know that water isn't toxic and isn't going to harm my leather strops. I think 10 carats per oz of water is the highest concentration you want but well past optimum. Probably 2-3 carats per oz would work best, but then the most expense is in the bottle, pump and label. I also think stropping sprays are a wee bit overpriced for what it costs to make them, unless you don't mind paying for snake oil.
