Guns and Knives

When the XD line first came out, I went and picked up two of them in different calibers. Surprisingly enough, I didn't really care for them. I put about 1000 rounds through each trying to make myself like them and I just couldn't. I can't put my finger on what I didn't like about them, I just know they weren't for me., which is a shame, because I'm a diehard Springfield Armory fan. Right now, I've been alternating a Kimber CDP, Wilson Proffessional, and the old trusty Springfield A-1.

I was the same way I had a 9mm and a .40, the 9mm I used at work then sold, due to ignorance of the 9mm capabilities. Then I too realized I just didn't like them, however I can shoot them very well. I think they are too slide/top heavy. I don't like how they feel on recoil, it just slaps back and isn't comfortable or good for follow-up shots. At least that's how I feel about them, I presently carry a Glock. I had two Kimbers as well but being a student made it hard to justify all that potential money sitting there.

I bought my first handgun last year and picked up the XD 40 Service Model. I spent a lot of time researching and being the "newbie" to handguns I was attracted to the price/ease of use of the polymer pistols and sold on the XD grip safety. After shooting for a while now I see there are better options out there! The XD is very top heavy and the recoil is felt more than other options (glock). It is still a great gun and I won't sell it, I shoot well with it at this point. I am looking at getting a Glock 26 as my CC. Less complex (i.e no grip safety) sits lower in the hand and time tested!

Another option to look at is the M&P, I bought the 9mm compact for the wife. It's a tiny bit larger than the 26 but it has 12 round mags and different size back straps. The only thing I don't like is the trigger, it is pretty rough out of the box, but a lot of dry-fire will smooth it out, or you can polish the sear and other trigger mechanisms inside. i shot a match with it last night, it would be my pick over a 26. But I prefer a glock 19. Good luck!

I have checked these out at the gun shop. I was very impressed with the ergos, it fit my hand well. Wasn't too sure how I would like it until I had some range time with it! Thanks for the heads up!

Oh and it is an accurate little thing too, sometimes if I am really patient I can almost outhsoot the accuracy on a glock, but this M&P is awesome. I had a fly land on my target at 7-10 yards, and just for shits and giggles I aimed at him. Well let's just say he beat his personal best at flying speed and is probably 2-3 feet deep in a berm, lol

If you are going for ccw do not overlook the Kahr PM-9. It conceals great and shoots nicely. If I hold my tongue just right it is no problem hitting the steel torso rifle targets at 50 yds.

That was my first choice because of the size. Price tag is a little too hefty for me right now, unfortunately! I'm hoping I can test one at the range, but no luck as of yet!
