Anyone else watch the show last night?
I laughed most of the way through it,most everything they were saying was wrong. Then I thought maybe they were doing it to keep the anti gun nuts happy.
Just a few little tidbits
1.M16 holds 13 rds
2.Semi auto pistols hold up to 13 rds
3.ALL guns sales are kept on file with the ATF
They were shooting at Gunsite, and it was a pro gun show.Think they were saying all this on purpose or being given the wrong info.

I watched the 1st 15 mikes and said this is BS...Turned the channel!!!
The toad doing the, and this is----was just that, a toad. It's programs like this that give out false information that the anti's gravitate toward, and they spout off that the information given ON TV has to be the truth. DUH!!!

SORRY, this should be moved to the political/cynical...................

Was this "The Works" show? I had my DVR record it but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Thats the one.
It makes me wonder about how inaccurate other shows are that I don't know that much about.

TV shows inevitably are wrong. Look at that bald guy on futureweapons- ex "Navy Seal" supposedly?, I watched a clip where he holds up a .308 and says ".308 is the round chambered by the AK47."

HA! the level of ignorance regarding firearms is staggering.

In a former lifetime I worked for a pawn shop chain. ATF would come in and "audit" the stores about once a year for compliance with all the federal regulations. The ATF chick comes in the store and immediately starts to freak out because we had some Norinco SKS's and MAK 90's for sale. She says... "you cannot sell those... those are fully automatic weapons!!!" Startled... I replied... "where"? She pointed at the guns and said that "those are exactly the kind of machine guns they use in all the movies".

I was dumbfounded at the ignorance of this ATF agent who was unaware of the difference between semi-automatic, and fully-automatic (but trying really hard not to laugh). She called a supervisor, got set strait, and completed her audit with lots of egg on her face. Just amazing.

The History channel seems to bounce around as far as fact versus fiction on their gun stuff.

For example the one on "western gun tech" with the old kung fu guy is generally pretty factual, but an occasional error.

And the HC is generally pro gun and leans to conservative programing all around is my opinion.

A lot of their shows are recycled of course, they use 10 minutes from 4 or 5 shows, and produce a new one.

One on Iron, and how it is used, they did really screw up though, they went to the AMU gunsmiths, and had a guys saying "iron is what really helps to produce a match rifle", and the impression was given that match barrels are primarily iron, which of course they are not, but I think that was an editing issue, more than any intention to skew the facts.

If you really want too see some stupid gun experiments, check out Mythbusters! Now, there, they do some gun experiments, that those two guys are just flat out ignorant about weapons, or, they pretend to be ignorant just too invent the drama effect.

Of course that goes across the board with many of their experiments. they spend a whole ton of money "proving" facts that are pretty commonly known already.

I don't know about them being pro gun but they tried to kill Mail Call because they did not want to Glorify the Military
R Lee Ermey raised such a stink that they changed their mind, haven't seen Mail Call on in a while though.

I'd have to agree. I like the History alot and it's typically dead on.

The show that this thread is discussing is The Works, which I have watched twice now. The guy on it is pretty soft and cheesy, gives engineers a bad name and is the reason they have the stereotype they do. Shame, cause my dad is an engineer and is nothing like the stereotype. Hopefully this spinoff of History channel's Modern Marvels doesn' last long. Or at the very least they need to get rid of the dweeb that hosts it.

Dagnabbit! I missed it! I was looking forward to seeing that fellow shoot that big magnum revolver.

Wonder if it will air again? Anyone know?

If it is like all their other shows just keep an eye out after midnight.

I dunno how it works on the history channel, but on other shows the 'fact checker' is just some intern or assistant who just has to find the fact online somewhere.

I assume it works simmilarly for the HC shows. It all comes down to how much the person cares about doing their job. Are they using wiki or britanica or trade journals to fact check...

I just got back from checking to see if the show was on the HC web site, not yet .I saw there was a buzz in their forums about how bad the show was.I set up an account just to leave my dislike of the show too.

Show on right now about knives.
Watch to see if they get any of that right.

This'll irritate someone I'm sure...

AK = 308 short
M14 G3 etc. = 308
Dragunov = 308 mag

Same caliber, different cartridges, velocities, trajectories and energy (Ft/Lb)

Yes, I do know the "correct" nomenclature....came up with this to irritate a "gear geek"....

Brian you are so mean.

I happen to like MythBusters. It is more entertanining than anything else.

more goodies

Glock invented in 1859

Mp5 invented in 1918

Saw it also, lets see some of those experts try to field strip a rifle after watching that.

I thought they said Glock made curtain rods in 1859.
Anyway, though they may have made many mistakes I applaud their efforts. I always enjoy the history channel and it is always interesting; visuallly, at least

anyone see planet earth, that was a beautiful series, put me back into the camping mood

I kinda always like to check the source of info and who owns the source, before I forget about the old take it with a grain of salt philosophy.
