Greetings all. Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut. I went to a local gun show this morning just because. I do have a specific gun in mind to buy, but almost never see it, and usually the prices at these shows are ridiculously high. But it's still worth getting out "just in case" you find something. Today's just in case was a rather nice Ka-Bar stockman with some pretty nice looking and fairly symmetrical sambar stag handles. I cannot find any markings which reveal the steel, but it looks and feels like 1095 to me. It has a dog head with ka-bar stamped onto it for the shield. It has Ka-bar with USA underneath it stamped on the main blade. The other two blades are of course the sheepsfoot and spey blades. I touched up all three edges, and am very satisfied with my find. I did manage to talk the guy down in price also... I think I did OK.
So, anybody have one of these dog-head Ka-Bars? Can you verify the steel? How about worth? (kinda want to know if I did OK or not)

Congrats on the find... I don't have one so I can't be of any help though.
I know what you mean about gun shows. I used to go to everyone that there was in our state, and even some out of state. They used to be a lot of fun, but a few years back people that couldn't even spell gun found out they could make money doing this.. Then they all decided that what they had was gold and priced them accordingly. Took all the fun out of it :(
However you can still find deals on non gun stuff though as you did..
Sorry I kinda got of your original topic.

Sounds like a good find. I've seen a few Ka-Bars with the dog's head on ebay. They looked pretty nice. Congrats.
