Gunting 04 improvements???

I was just looking in one of my Spyderco small catalogs and it the 2004 catalog to be exact. I seen something in there that immediately caught my eye that maybe some of you can fill me in on.

They had the ever so popular GUNTING model along with it's trainer pictured and right underneath the knife it said "Improved For 2004". Well I know by that time that they were makeing all of the Guntings with S30V.

My question is: What improvement(s) are they talking about?

Also I want to know if all of the Gunting trainers used GIN-1 for the trainer blades in that model?? Inquiring minds like me want to know ;)
 
I thought the Guntings were all CPM440V, except for the 100 or 150pc run for a dealer in S30V PE?
 
I have a S30V PE Gunting NIB sitting in my safe. 100 or 150pc run, that's interesting. I edc a Civilian & a P'Kal for SD.
 
NO NO NO!!!. No guys there were many more S30V Guntings that the 150pc lot you are making reference to.

Now I know what you are talking about. There are very few of the S30V Guntings in all Plain edge. About 98% of the S30V Guntings were combo edged just like the one I have here on my desk. I have even heard that there may be as few as 100 of the plain edged S30V Guntings. Even as far back as the 2003 Spyderco catalog they had their Gunting model listed with S-30V blade steel.

Now I don't know the exact numbers but I suspect that there were more 440V Guntings made than there were S-30V.

I hope that clears that one up.
 
Yes i have a S30V ce as well ,i thought only the pe s30v variant was scarce!

Well I'm going to try to start over again :D In the 2004 catalog which is the last year that the Gunting was ever in a Spyderco catalog. I don't know if they made them into the model year of 05 or not.

But anyway in that catalog they said that the Gunting model had IMPROVEMENTS for the 2004 model. Again I want to know if anyone knows what those improvements were. I've had at least 7 Guntings other than the one in my User's arsenal and I've never spotted any distinct difference in any of them. But that's not to say that they could have done some internal modifications. But I was hoping that some of you GUNTING-Freaks would know what they are talking about. JOE DOTSON
