Gunting bites...

Sal: longer blade will not stop it from cutting into ones leg..Bio mechanically one cannot clear the circumfrence of one's leg by pulling with one's arms before the blade starts to cut...a longer blade makes a bigger cut in one's leg..
Again..all I can do is tell people. warn people to NOT use a live blade to practice kinetic opening and to NEVER..read that NEVER try to open it on your own leg.. I don't know why but it has NEVER occured to me personally to do this...
I have seen MANY people blow out their own leg and I ONCE tried it to show someone that its not possible..
Mary was the very first to slice her own leg.

If you Kin-Op the GUNTING fast enough while trying to maintain space so you don't cut your own leg..OOOOPPS!
"BAM" the Kin-Op lets the blade do a perfect TIP -RIP on your leg...
soooo AGAIN;; Do not try to open a LIVE GUNTING on your own leg...
Don't practice using a DRONE and then think you can get away with the GUNTING..practice safely..use a DRONE while using common sense..use a DRONE to see exactly what you can and CANNOT do with a live blade..
Thats why you have one..
Thats why SPYDERCO makes one..
Thats why I insisted on it..

 
By the way..Thomas, Laci and I watched this nice french gentleman slice the top of his finger open to the bone while trying to show us how to open a LIVE GUNTING off of his thumb..we kept taking it away and giving him a DRONE but NOOOO he knew better and took a GUNTING, stepped away from the table, and "BAM" sliced his finger open spraying blood all over the table...
He came back after the medics took care of him and bought a DRONE..
smart man..learned his lesson..

you don't need to do what I did..
 
Yes, Bram, I watched the tape that Terry insisted that I buy with the knife. Now I know why he was so damned insistant! He would not sell me a knife w/o the tape. I now consider that a very responsible business practice. I have not bought a Drone as i do not use mine as a Martial Arts System and do not practice with it. But it is a hell for effectve utility knife, I will tell you that. It will open just about anything that needs opening and will cut whatever I have that needs cutting and is ever so much easier for my arthritic hands to handle than my Native. All in all, a most successful purchase for my needs.

BUT, DAMMIT, DO WATCH THE FILM! It is most informative about how not to hurt yourself with the knife.
