Gus and Blues : Two good guys

How about this - we have a new membership subscription, just for Knifemakers - you guys can sign up and post your new offerings for sale in the Knives For Sale: Makers section.

No muss, no fuss, pretty clear cut, IMHO.

Kevin

Spark:

If you develop firm guidelines to eliminate all this "circumventing spending money to sell knives by posting in other forums" schtick - I'll be GLAD to be the first one to send you my money as a legitimate knifemaker who has knives for sale in the proper forum!:D

(I hope some of you folks realize by now I'm not just another cheap "Bastid" who's here for a "free ride!" ;) )

Let's remember that the reason why Spark started charging for the right to sell items on the boards was to make BladeForums.com more self supporting and self sufficient. Those who seek to circumvent that are like guests disrespecting the home of their host.

Gus and I are only trying to work within that framework and satisfy as many folks as we can while doing so.

On the other hand, the bastids that I routinely hang out with in chat at night have urged me to show some cojones and take a tougher stand on "violators" and I guess from time to time that is what I/we will have to do instead of coming across as apologists all the time.

I agree with the above.

If it's blatant advertising a knife for sale, send the thread over to the makers for sale forum, and we can deal with it there. IF the person isn't a paid member with posting rights, we'll lock the thread and / or edit it.

IMHO, Blues & Gus, you need to allow the makers to post their pics, and ask for comments. This in itself will stimulate the discussion, and hopefully the makers will be respectful enoughNOT to use this forum to sell.

Just my 2 cents.

I apologize if my last post seemed harsh. The point I was trying to convey is that if guidelines were developed, it might mean a lot less explaining when the moderators needed to edit, move, or delete a post that implied (or stated) the item was "for sale". Spark and the rest of the moderators have enough to contend with without needing to send lengthy emails to folks who can't abide by "the rules!" ;)

I still believe a description of the knife and it's contributors would be adequate when starting threads with knife photos in forums other than "Knives for Sale by Makers." That way, everybody can enjoy seeing a knife photo without it being misconstrued as a "sales pitch" right away. I realize no one can predict how the thread would progress from there, but at least it would have a decent chance!

Also, DDR once suggested the development of a "Knifemaking Equipment For Sale" forum. I'd like to second that motion and suggest adopting similar guidelines. :)

It took me years to learn to stay inside the lines with my box of Crayolas!

um... Tom... you promised never to tell anyone about that! Now I'm embarrassed! Please don't post a pic! ;)

just lightening you guys up a little :)

I'm happy to see new knives by makers. But a little phrasing, and a little restraint, makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks Brian that sums it up as far as I am concerned.

Makers,

Please post pictures of the knives that you are especially proud of or of knives that you would like feedback on.

However, don't abuse this forum by pointing out that "This Knife is currently available" or "A similar Knife would run $xxx".

Everyone hear should be intelligent enough to know that if they like the knife they can contact you offline.

Thank you SDouglas
(another one right on the mark)

Hey, folks...

Check out the new "knifemaker" thingy on the left! :D

Spark - Thanks for understanding and getting me in on this new type of subscription! :)

(See - I really ain't a "Cheap Bastid", after all! :p )

Gus and Blues - I'll try to make your job easy when it comes to my posts! ;)

Thanks, guys! :)

Came to these forums (all of them) to learn about knives. Haven't learned much about knives lately, but have gained some insights about politics. Think I'll spend a few days over at www.whitehouse.com until this gets resolved. They don't know as much about knives there, but they're almost as funny.:D

Hey guys, Just wanted to say "sorry" I think I did post some pics in the wrong place a couple of months ago. I do understand better about the posting if photo's now, I'm very limited on time & have not read all the rules & guide lines, I will try in the future to follow the rules & always want to do what is right. I do like reading the post you guys put out & have enjoyed meeting all that I have. The forums that I've read are good reading & I've learned from them. I just don't have the time to read all of them. Most of the post's I've put in have been in this one. Anyway, I'll try to do better, If I screw up feel free to chew. I've gotten use to the chewing after 19 yrs of marriage. I do enjoy see all of yall's awesome knives. Later, Dwayne Dushane:p
