I have a customer who wants a hunting knife with a gut hook. Personally I don't care for them, but if everyone had the same tastes in knives this site would be quite boring:eek:. Now after starting this knife it's starting to grow on me and I'm thinking I might need one myself to try out this fall :D....

Here is what I got profiled out the other night:

I think you hit a winner. A guthook never looks as good as a non-hook knife, but yours has an elegance of design that I like.

It's as nice as something with a guthook can be :( When people ask for them I ask them if they cook coffee over an open fire, "no, why?" cause that's what the hook is for, to lift the coffee pot out of the fire. If we can't agree I recommend them to someone else. I despise guthooks.

Has anyone had good success with a gut hook? I'm not really sure what to think of them. They definitely are not very good looking.

Rescuing the coffee can - that's a good one!

I was also thinking if the geometry was right it could be used for opening beer caps.

Make sure to post some finished photo's.

I always tell em the same thing..."If you want a knife with a guthook, go to WalMArt they've got TONS of em, CHEAP too!":D

I did this one for a client that wanted a fat bladed droppoint with a Guthook.
Doubt I will do another. A PITA.

I have one Buck skinner with a gut hook. It's ugly, but the gut hook is the best thing since the can opener for deer and feral hog. For this I can forget my aesthetic sensibilities for the sheer function. Just me I guess.

I make a few guthooks, and have used them and I like them in use, but they are not very appealing in looks, and are a pain to make. Bruce, I think your guthook looks as good as any I have seen, yours has a nice pointy point, if that makes any sense.

Well I got some knife work done on the weekend. The customer wanted belt finish and black, fire-scale flats. Now onto the sheath......
