Gut hook

tell me please how to make a gut hook on the knife your making.

The way I do it is, I drill a 1/4" hole, spaced double the diameter of the bit from the spine. (1/4" dia hole = 1/2" below the spine) Then scribe 2 straight lines from the hole to the spine and use a saw or cut off tool to cut it out. Play with angles and see which one looks best to you. Clean up and bevel with a 1/4" round file for the hole and a flat file for the straights.

I am making my third knife right now. It is for a friend and he asked for a gut hook on it. I roughed out the blade just making a straight line down to the spine where the gut hook was supposed to go. then I just used a round file to cut the groove in. It turned out pretty good.

i use my 3/4 inch small wheel on my KMG
its a big hook and not easy to over load or pack with hair
