Guy sells fake spyderco knives?

Hi all!

I was browsing through a local buy/sell page, just like ebay.

Anyway, I found this "Spyderco" knife that Im certain is a fake! I have never seen this model before, looks like the byrd line, and never seen the blade steel "VS-10"?! He describes the knife as a Military! And he claims that the knife retails in the US for $219.95!! This sort of things really bugs me! I have emailed the seller and asked him what the deal are, thought I would show you guys the ad so you could confirm that it indeed is a fake. I google "spyderco vs-10" and found some asian pages that sold the exact same knife! I also found a knife marked "spyderco" but was an exact copy of a SureFire Delta folder!

It does look awful.
The seller is swedish, and xe.com converts the price to $37.
One could buy an honest, good Tenacious for that price.
 
It looks like a knock-off of the Spyderco Byrd Raven.
I'd report it to Spyderco; I'm sure they'd be interested in this.
 
That is a Chinese knock off. I have reported them twice now to Spyderco, as well as the exact same knife, being sold in a lot of 12 out of China on eBay, to eBay and they pulled them. They was asking about 175.00 for 12 buy it now.
 
Thanks! Dont know if I could report this to Spyderco themselves? I guess the guy gets the knives from an Chinese seller and it might be better if they pulled the plug on that source, but I guess it might be hard to do so.
I really hate when people sells stuff as the real deal when they arnt!
Will see what seller has to say about it...
 
Spyderco does know the source of these knock-offs and my friend in Australia even bought one and they had her send it to them and replaced it with a real Spyderco.
After that I noticed the 12 lot of those exact knives on eBay and told them again.
Then I reported the seller out of China to eBay for trademark infringement and the listing was pulled shortly after.
This is the picture my friend sent me of the knockoff she bought in AU and she sent to Spyderco. After I posted it here and the Spyderco Moderator noticed it and requested it, according to her it came from the same place as the one you posted- (and the lot of 12 on eBay)

There is a thread in the Kershaw forum about a website selling a knock-off E.T. model with a similar opening mechanism, but on that site, they also have a knock-off Poliwog and Spyderfly/Smallfly. This is the Spyderfly; http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3444 and in the user pictures someone has a side-by-side comparison of the blade tangs, one is a native and says Spyderco with the blade steel, whereas the other is the fake Spyderfly and simply has Spyderco etched.
 
Whoah! I just got the answer from the guy!

Man he is either out there or he is really trying to pull my leg!

He cant tell the difference on the blade steel and model, he thinks that the blade steel is the model etc...

I saw that he sold a "Columbia" knife to, he describes it as an CRKT! Its not!

Have to report this to Spyderco, I hate to see people taking advantage of companies just to sell crap!

The one from Australia ws a big help. We were finally able to purchase one in the US. That's what our attorney's needed to follow up.

It's actually a real PITA. Expensive as well and solutions are only temporary.

They sell quite a few outside of the US, especially in Europe. Knock off Guntings sold in Europe a lot.

It's even more of a drag when they come into customer service with complaints about quality and the customer epects us to service them.

One of the real drawbacks about China.

I have to be honest, I laughed pretty hard when I seen their version of the spyderco red & black box. A cardboard box and it doesn't even look like thick cardboard.
 
haha it looks like an ugly baby of a Byrd Raven and a Tenacious, kinda. These guys can't even do good knockoffs. Everyone knows the Spydercos have a round hole, the byrds have that ugly comet (sorry Sal! Just opinion!)

I don't know why you'd buy this crap when you could get a Byrd. The build quality on my two Byrds is just amazing for the price (G10 Cara Cara and G10 Crossbill.) People are stupid, though.
 
Haven't seen any fake spydies on eBay.com.au yet but lots of: Boker; S&W; Cold Steel; Benchmade & Emerson - pretty obviously fakes when handled but hard to tell from the pics - low price with high delivery is often a good giveaway - apparently eBay does not take a commission on postage so these guys are even ripping them off!
 
I guess this shows the importance of being an informed buyer in today's world of greedy, corrupt e-business (and I guess the business world as a whole, but I digress).

On the note of the actual knife, what a terrible fake of a Military. It obviously would sell as Byrd model rather than anything in the main lineup, but I guess they did a cute job with the Spyder on the blade. It looks like the manufacturer of these fakes needs to do a little research...

Nothing can match The Real Deal. I've had real Militaries for years and you can't beat them.

This crap really steams me. There are a lot of people out there that don't know a fake when they see it. They just see Spyderco and think quality. I don't know if I feel sorry for them for not knowing or think they should better educate themselves. At any rate glad sal is on it.
