Just a recommendation based on personal experience. i've seen a lot of great mods on these babies. Anyone else replacing the stock "cord" with paracord? both of my guyot bottle cords have popped out of the orange fastener, has this been an issue for you aswell?
it's obviously a VERY simple fix, but a little annoying if it were to happen on a trek or something of the like. seems like a weak point and i'd change it before it happens to you. thankfully while i was carrying my last bottle by the cord and it popped i wasn't over water or hiking up a hillside.

common problem? or my missuse?

Hmm, never happened to me. But mine is always secured in the pocket of my Pygmy falcon side pocket, or Jumbo pack pocket. So it doesn't bounce around much...

Tops of mine are covered by GSI Glacier cups. No snag issues.

i appreciate you being confident in my intelligence, but truth be told, i'm an idiot. i always pull them out of pockets (maxpedition bottle holder, or side pouches of my snugpak bags) by the cord...

this is not a great idea haha clearly. but i think the paracord should do just fine at it.

this was not a snag issue, it was an operational misstep. however, i will continue to do it this way haha so paracord it is!

Popped out of the orange thingies? Nope, Hasn't happened for me. When I first got my bottle, I did adjust the orange thingie on the loop that goes around the bottle so I could just barely slip the cord off the bottle, thus removing the cordage and cap assembly, but that's about it. I've had not issues with the orange thingies slipping or otherwise letting go of the cord. Do you hang your bottle by the cord?

Replaced my cord with a stainless line that I can hang it from a pole or branch with. No worries about melting in a fire. Cap is free to come off - not worried about losing it. I have a second stainless line to loop around the Guyout and control the pouring of the boiled water.

...so, no my cord never cam out of the orange tabs. In fact, I don't even know where my cord is :).

I couldn't stand that lid. I don't know why. I just replaced it with a standard nalg.

I replaced the cord with 550, using snare loops. I wanted to be able to remove the lid for boiling water without carrying an allen wrench.

DOC- this is EXACTLY what my setup is, knots and all. for me it improves the design in many (though perhaps small) ways.
still surprised i'm the only one that's accidentally popped the cord out of those orange things, but i guess that's a good thing for everyone!

I havent had trouble Yet but I will keep my eye on it. I loosened the screws on the orange piece so I can tighten or loosen the loop with relative ease for removal in the field.

I've been tempted to replace the lid on mine with one of those ones with the extra narrow mouth opening on the top of it. I just can't remember who makes it. :p

Looks a lot more low-profile with a standard lid!

The newest SS Guyots dont have screws anymore. You just slip it tight or loose to remove the cord.

Found that cord so much in the way I removed it & replaced it with nothing.
Much better. :)
