GW vs. AD

I would not carry one on a fishing/hunting trip. For me it is too prone to puncture and dig into things that you just want to slice open.

yeah, for cleaning game or fish it would probably not be the best option. too pointy.

You guys ever seen a fillet knife or a Buck 110? :D

Seems like there was some hint by Skunk regarding a Super Warden.

Edit: Aha! I found the links--especially the one (first link below) where Tony G PhotoChopped a longer blade onto a GW handle.

I used to own an AD but let it go because I found the drop point tip to be a little too pointy for edc tasks. Personally I prefer the more upswept tip of the GW for edc use as it doesn't tend to stab things as much. It does seem a bit short sometimes though and cound use a bit more blade. I'd love to see a GW handled version of a Leaner Meaner Street :D

I EDC a GW and used to have Heavy Duty - the same profile as AD only thicker. I like the handle on a GW better. I feels much better for me, maybe it's because my hands are rather small. As to the shape of the blade - I like them both and I feel both are very useful. AD is pointier but GW is IMHO pointy enough, although I would buy an AD with GW handle without hesitation (like everybody on this forum I think) :D

Please don't get me wrong... I still love GWs! :D It's probably that I just got my first AD and it's taking the front seat. Lets just say they each have their advantages in certain situations.

As for the Long Neck Warden... this is one I photochopped around the same time as Guyon's links.

Bring on the long neck wardens!!!

Well after scientific testing of my GW-LE, I must say that the GW isn't as good as the AD for slicing up cantalope. Blade is just a tad too fat/tall to really work in as a kitchen-type knife.

I still love it, tho. All of em. Probably a much better skinner, but I ain't been skinning nuttin but these cantalopes so I wouldn't know.

Oh yeah, and for kitchen-tasks, I think the GW handle is a bit too short. But that's just my hands.

I was thinking about the AD as a replacement for the GW I use in the kitchen...
but decided that the LmS will probably be the best for those tasks.
It's got a better blade length for it IMHO.

If they do a stretched GW I hope the handle will be longer also.
I have large hands and can get only a 3 finger grip on them.

The AD is great for fishing and very good for skinning, more Deer have been skinned with the CaseTrapper style blade than any other. GW is a great skinner with its big belly but the AD will work fine if your carefull.

I no longer have my Deer processing buisness that I had for years in my 20's and 30's but if I had to skin a few very quick I would choose the AD over the GW because it would cause me alot less hand fatigue with its larger grip.

If small hands go with the GW

I took my new AD camping this weekend with my GW and some of my other Busse's(No Pics, plum forgot). This is my first AD and I must say I really really liked it, I liked the look and the feel of it better than the warden. I also liked the talon hole as I could still use a lanyard. I used it for preppin a food and making hotdog sticks and creating tinder. The more I used it the more I found I couldnt put it down, I am not saying it makes my GW obsolete as it is better for skinning game and such. However I think I have found my new lil buddy as this thing just plain fits me:D

This makes me excited about the Meaner I have comin, because I have always like the blade on that thing.

I get the impression that the GW is a chopped down AD, it may have had a some refinements in the design, but I think it was designed by rounding the but and shortening the tip, on an AD. I think that a GW like handle could be created by rounding off the but of the AD like Samek did.

My first impression of the AD was that my grip on it was stiffer than my GW, that would be due to the protruding but in place of the rounded but.
I can't tell which one I like more, I guess it's an issue of each one serving a slightly different purpose and me needing both. :D

Bring on the Big Game Warden:D

HEY....I like that!!! Big Game Warden. Hmmmm...how big, Badger size maybe.

As far as the debate goes...Active Duty hands down. The Game Warden is a great little knife but there aren't many 3 finger knives that feel good in my hand and the GW was one of the ones that just didn't. Which was kind of a bummer for me....there were soooo many different flavors, it would have been cool to have one for each day of the week. But, like it has been said the blade shape of the AD is another reason I prefer it over the GW, the shape and the size. Just not quite enough Point on that GW. But I wouldn't mind seeing a Biggie Size version.:D

Here is my opinion:

I don't think it needs to be that big. No more than 5/8 of an inch longer blade and mybe the same in the handle. Otherwise it gets very close to a BA-III and although I love the BA-III it is at times too big for what I need.
The alternative is a Mini Badger.

The Big-Game Warden:thumbup:

The GW handle is basically a chopped down handle of the AD which is a slightly modified MS handle.

Another difference between the handle feel of the GW vs AD is the thickness of the scales. The AD has thicker scales and slightly longer handle that are preferred by folks with larger handles.

Smaller hands like mine prefer the GW handle bc the extra handle length of the AD is just protruding from my hands. For EDC I would prefer it to be as small and light as possible without sacrificing too much function.

I too at times find myself wishing that the GW had a pointier tip. The drop point is perfect as a skinning knife but a pointer tip is more efficient at opening boxes and packages.

The GW as it is now is already a very good EDC for me. But I still find myself carrying my dressed Skeleton Key more often because it is much lighter.
Anyone have a SK that they want to get rid of ? ;)

Soon I will mod my AD to a GW handle and see how that goes.
