Up for sale is a Wa Handled Gyuto in AEB-L with Ironwood handle.
AEB-L is hardened at 62 by Jeff M. at Tru-Grit in California. AEB-L is from the Baron in New Jersey.
The blade is hand ground in my shop thin at .010 behind the edge, then hand finished to 1200 grit oil sanding.
The blade is sharpened to 5000 grit using water stones. It will easily push cut paper.
It tapers to the tip. The tip is flexible (thin), but not flimsy.
The spine and choil have been rounded for comfort.
The ironwood handle features a modified D shape with a very nice grain to the wood. The spacer is stainless. The handle is hand sanded to 1200 and buffed. The finish is food grade mineral oil and bees wax. I prefer Boos Block board cream to finish and maintain the wood.
The wood can be touched up with cream occasionally to show the figure and to condition the wood to last.
I am relatively new to knife making and have put every effort to produce the best knife possible based on my abilities.
My philosophy in knife making at this point is to produce a knife that functions very well and also displays the beauty of materials in design and feature.
I prefer a look that is in keeping with the classic line, with my own artistic touch to accent my work.
AEB-L at 62 hardness by TruGrit.
Full flat grind on each side of blade. This is a very thinly ground blade, taken to .014 behind the edge.
Overall Length at 330 mm (13 inches)
Blade length at 193 mm (7.62 inches)
Handle Length at 127 mm (5 inches)
Blade height at 46.5 mm (1.82 inch) at heal
Spine thickness is 1.77 mm (.07 in) at heal, 1.14 (corrected) mm 2 inches from tip (slight taper).
