With Spyderco's H-1 Salt Series growing and becoming even more popular to the public I think its time to compare notes.

Here a few months ago there was a rumor going around that there are plans for a new Dyad model with H-1 blade steel. It was also stated that it would be a size smaller than the original C-44 big Dyad.

This would be a double winner for me because I love the Dyad model and I'm also really starting to deeply appreciate all of Spyderco's H-1 blades. The TASMAN has really been a big help to me here lately and I'm wondering what you all think about more H-1 Salt series blades?

Particularly the H-1 Dyad and maybe more H-1 Hawkbills

I never had a chance to handle a Dyad, JD, but I would welcome some H1 hawks.

We built a concept model of a Dyad2. Slightly smaller than the original, Dual RIL's. We tried to make it in H1, but the maker couldn't do it so we made the sample in VG-10.

The cost turned out to be really high ($300 MSRP) so we put it on a hold shelf for now.

Hi JD,

Our current H1 expansion is the Jumpmaster and a variation of the Echanis Warrior. These will get much H1 focus for the next 6 months or so.

The Jumpmaster is getting ready to be released, more info next week.

the other is still in sheath development.

Is there any more information available on the Echanis knife? Will this be similar to the "hobbit warrior" and "warrior" knives produced in the '90s? Curved blade, "S" shaped overall including hilt, serrations on the 'convex' side of the blade? If so, sign me up :).

Similar in appearance, but smaller and many of the features have been changed.

is H-1 very tough(impact resistant) I see it in the Rock Salt, Jumpmaster, and now this new version of a fighting knife, and the inability to rust can't be the only reason, is it?

Nice, I have an Aqua Salt, just haven't put it to work yet. No rust, work hardens into the 60s, and tough; awesome.

:thumbup:A man after my own heart!! It looks like we will both be dreaming until they can find a manufacturer who can do the dead!

If you get bored in the mean time give me a yell and we can do a rafting trip. The fishin' is good when the river is low, and when it's high you and worried about the fishin' !!!!

H-1 seems to be one of those "can have my cake and eat it too" steels.

I think as more and more folks play with it, especially in the fixed blades, where you don't have to baby the knife, will really start singing its praises.

pity about the Dyad. There's one I missed out on. $300 would be a bit on the steep side though.

If you search google you can find a lot of good pictures of the knife, looks close to finished.

I'll post them here if no one minds. Doesn't look like something I'll ever have any use for but I like seeing what Spyderco comes up with regardless.

Regarding the Salts, I've been happy with mine so far. I have a Pacific Salt beater, an Aqua Salt and a Tasman Salt I just picked up. I love the hawkbill shape of the latter, and would like to see one in the Pacific Salt size. The Aqua Salt has been coming with me on some short hikes lately. Batoned it a few times to break apart wood for the fire and it's doing good. I just reprofiled the blade and plan to go test it on some wood later today and see how the edge holds up. The only thing about H1 not impressing me currently is the edge holding. It's acceptable for use, but I notice my S30V and ZDP189 blades doing better than my two PE salts. Haven't used the Tasman enough to see how the SE works with H1 and I'm still waiting to see if either of them work harden after time.

I think a hawkbill ladybug in H1 would be a nice keychain knife or change pocket knife.
