I received two hawks from H&B last week for my son, unsure of which one would fit him best. We decided to keep the med camp hawk due to the weight. So I'm offering up the large French Hawk here to my fellow bushcrafters. The under belly/beard of the blade is only tapered although it looks like a cutting edge, so choking up shouldn't be an issue. It is a well balanced hawk and will make a great chopper. The price is a little less then what it will cost you shipped from H&B and without the two or three week wait.
