maybe some sort of firesteel or a few of those NATO waterproof matches

just out of interest, how much water can a condom hold, I've never really taken the time to go fill one up at the kitchen sink then drink out of it :D

I think 1 liter to 1.5 liters maximum. I filled one up in the shower once to see how big it would get. It looked about the size of a 1 liter coke bottle. That's a lot of water for something something so compact and small. But I'm sure it wouldn't last to long if you were to carry it around. Mine burst on impact when I dropped it on the shower floor.............Why am I telling you guys this?:foot:

Use inside a sock or bandana for support.
Just done a search and there are apparently several used for a condom in a survival sitation. The strangest suggestion being worn as a hat!!!

even condoms come in different wall thicknesses ... for survival use look for extra strong ones.

I just got my HEST today and it's great. I reversed the handles and found it more comfortable (thanks to whoever posted that, I forgot your handle).

Inside the handles I've got;

-18" of thin paracord.
-Six strike anywhere matches (with about 1/3" cut off) and a small strip of sandpaper to strike them on.

And that's all rolled up in a sandwich baggie (slightly cut to size) to add some degree of water resistence and to stop any rattling.

I'm not sure if the 18" of that thin paracord is enough to effectively lash the HEST onto a limb so that's something I'll have to try.

Just playing with different options I tied the HEST to the belt loop of the RAT survival kit and it makes a good grab and go package...not somewhere I'd personally keep my HEST day to day though. I'm still trying to figure out a comfortable, concealed (for the most part) and easy to access way to EDC it.

i feel like the having a baggie would be more useful than a condom, it would seem to me that a condom, much like a water balloon, would need pressure like a faucet to fill up, which is probably scarce in any survival situation. for me i think it would depend on the situation, anything from matches, cord, money, fishing gear etc. however if i carried a HEST EDC why not put a condom in it, then when you need it for the intended purpose: "excuse me, ive got to grab my knife for protection"

My Trojan Magnums barely fit in my wallet, they aren't getting into a HEST handle..

I doubt the baggie I've got the matches and paracord in would be a reliable water container. It's very thin and when I rolled it up with the matches inside they probably made a few holes. It's mainly to prevent water from soaking through if the knife get's wet or dunked. The baggies I use aren't name brand, so maybe if you got a thicker baggie it would work for water..but then you're taking up more space.
