H&K Feint Back packer blade

seems interesting, 9.5 inch blade 11.1 ounces, STAINLESS 440C 3/16 thick

At first, seeing its length, I thought a large knife like the ESEE Junglas would be equivalent, but I guess the idea is that this is a good chopper at a much lighter weight.
Bushcraft experts always say a large knife isn't needed, but it looks like this is more for users who want these features plus possible tactical/combat applications.

So if a light machete like a Martindale isn't needed, this would be a great choice under a set of criteria based on weight, chopping ability, and use.

Trying to figure out if Gideon prefers the Feint to the Druid 230. Both same price aroudn same weight. ONe is made USA the other is china. One has a leather sheath the other does not. One has a choil the other does not.

Would you take the Feint over the druid 230? Feint over an ontario sp5 survival bowie?

The Druid 230 is not good, the feint is good and so is the sp5 just design if you want stainless or high carbon, and the sp5 is a little better at chopping but not as good on the finer stuff.

Again, the feint will do finer work better. The sp5 will be a little better at chopping and spitting because it is 3oz heavier has a bigger handle and is 1/4" thick. It will rust the Feint will not. It is a really close call between then.

Rarely ever see hardcore backpackers with such a blade. And "super lightweight" it ain't regardless of the claim in the video. A Mora #1 only weighs a bit over 2 ounces or 20% of the H&K, and you'll rarely see backpackers with a knife even the size of the Mora.

The way I see it, it has a niche, not sure what it is, but I'm sure it does. As you say Leg, 11oz is a lot of pack weight, and generally speaking someone trading tools for shelter will be wanting a saw, rather than a chopper, or be going a bit heavier and taking a small ax. I can see it being useful for someone doing the sort of work a light short machete would do, but those are fairly limited tasks.

Being half the weight of the junglas does make it compelling in a certain way, It looks like it should chop better than a heavy 7 inch, I think it would be interesting to pit it against a BK7, or even an ESEE-6 since they are close in weight.

its interesting, but again, not so sure what role its trying to fill.

I only know of the druid 230 as a stainless competitor in that price range.

The mora 333 in stainless is just a different animal

Knives are similar weight the two ontarios obviously being carbon steel obviously. Dry sycamore. Feint did the best

buddy is busy with work and hasnt' had a chance to use the feint yet but I will say I kind of miss this blade already
