H&K knives? Good quality?

I purchased a 14715 as a gift for a friend after handling a co-worker's. Super solid and a gladly received gift.

Funny that Pbcg mentions a tanto as I was recently looking to see if that existed and did not find it. Just discovered that it is a 14717. When a tan handle full size tanto is available, I'll get one for myself.

That's kinda what I'm waiting for too. Will get a Tanto version either way at some point butt would prefer one with the Sand colored handles when or if available.

We'll see but I definitely see a 14717 in my future...

I need to step in for the Blitz here.

I really like mine. I like the thin blade stock (2.5mm) and whilst it took a while to get it there, the I have a very good edge on mine and the Benchmade 154CM is well treated. I really like the simple shape of the handle, no funny scalloped quasi choils or weird bumps and things that force my hand into a grip. It fits MY hand really nicely YMMV. I'm not wild about the glossy G10 finish but I can live with it. Tip down, right side only works perfectly for me but I can see it as a negative for a lot of folk.

I'm agnostic on the assisted opening, I prefer manuals but the assist here is just something that is there - not good or bad, just there. I've taken out the roller on the Nitrous system on my Torrent so it shouldn't be a problem if you really want to de-assist it. There looks to be a detent ball but I'm not going to vouch for the strength of the detent without the spring.

Overall I think the quality is that of a good $100 knife. Fit and finish is fine, blade is centred, no blade play and its got that nifty hexagonal stop pin that can get rotated if you want to fiddle with the lock up.

Big positives for me are the comfortable handle, thin(ish) blade stock and Benchmade 154CM which, like VG10, I like as an easy maintenance steel.

As for the other HK knives and their quality - I've had no problems with my Alley or a Mini Ascender - both some of the better made Chinese manufactured knives, nothing special and you get what you pay for. HK has mostly black blades if you like that sort of thing (the Blitz being one of the few that is also offered in satin finish and a plus for me).

I'll recommend a Blitz to a friend and will probably pick up another one for myself at some point.

I got two H&K knives made in the US and the quality ist really good like a blue or black class Benchmade. No bladeplay at the axis and a little on the auto axis but no up and down

The knive on the right is made by boker here in germany before Benchmade got the brand H&K

Just curious because I've not had a chance to ask someone else who's owned one. Can you squeeze the two sides of the handle together? I'm not talking about super easy like you can squeeze a sponge or something, but are your handles kind of flimsy

The Blitz was the first Nitrous assisted model and the one I owned was a good knife. Rock solid, couldn't squeeze the handles if I tried. The detent was strong, and I prefer thinner formats. I sold or traded mine but it wasn't due to the build quality. As to other HK branded knives, my 14205 and 14210 models remain some of the best designed Benchmades ever offered and I still have them - they're permanent in my collection.

I also have HK folders from both Benchmade and Boker.

I love the old H&K folders that I got in 2005 made by Benchmade in Oregon and Boker in Solingen, Germany. I still have them.

HK X-15-T.N. made by Boker and HK 34FTC made by Benchmade (14250S):

The scales flex a bit if I squeeze midway between the stop pin and the standoff with my index finger and thumb. I only know this because I checked because you asked - I don't believe there is flex if the knife is held as you would when using it as a knife, even if there is it would be minor, it doesn't concern me at all. If it did in a particular task, I should probably be using a fixed blade.
