H1 sharpening question

You shouldn't have any issues with sharpening. The Pac Salt was my first Spyderco. It seemed to get a better edge as I sharpened it more and more. Strange steel, but I really liked mine.

I got a Tailsman about 9 months ago for work. I cut up about 15-20 carboard boxes per day. Cut plastic banding strips on pallets. Anyway I use in a lot. At first I was not that impressed with the edge holding characteristics. After about a month it all changed for the better. The H1 steel actually heats up with use faster than other blade steels. It gets "Work hardened". Now I touch it up about every two weeks on my Sharp Maker. Needless to say the blade shape of the Tailsman is great for ripping through cardboard or anything else for that matter.

I've been curious about this steel for quite some time. I know that it will never rust, but what disadvantages does this steel have?

The H1 steel does seem to scratch up easily. It has a rather dull appearance.
This is just cosmetic.

It will sharpen very easily. It is not very abrasion resistant, so it grinds very quickly, but it is so hard that it burrs very little. It is among the easiest-to-get-sharp stainless steels.

The only drawback I could name is that it isn't very abrasion resistant. So on very abrasive material, it will fall behind the top steels used by Spyderco quickly. But it has good edge stability: It will neither chip nor roll excessively.

The Pacific has slowly advanced to one of my all time favorite knives. It is how an EDC should be. Light, powerful cutter, totally maintenance free, easy to sharpen. It just works.

I feel the same way about the Salt I. Best summer/wet conditions pocket knife that I've ever owned.

I used an Edge Pro Apex on the last two that I picked up, and just worked 'til they would make a good burr. After they will make a burr, they sharpen up really easily, and the edge holds up for a good while.

H1 is really easy to sharpen, a lot like Benchmade's 440c. I can get my Pacific Salt sharper than any other knife I own, except a Minigrip in 440c I have.
