This is a brand new and unused Basque-style axe by Hachas Jauregi in Urnieta, Basque country, Spain.
Handle length is approx 23.5" and weight is 1.000 kg (approx 2.2 lbs).
Most axes from this maker have the moon-bit pattern, but this is the (less common?) Recta (straight) pattern.
This has never been used, but I did treat the handle (I think it was mostly BLO and a top-coat of Danish oil). The axe head is highly polished as it came from the maker.
I tried my best to make this look as pretty as possible, because I had intended to mount it on a wall for display. But... plans have changed.
I haven't done anything to the edge -- it is very sharp as-is, and based on my other Jauregi axes, a small amount of stropping would make this screaming sharp.
The head is hung in such a manner that the handle widens near the end with the head. There is no need for a wedge, and the head should never be able to fly off.
I have a few other Jauregi axes that are heavy users for me, and I love them. Compact size, but well balanced and the weight is all in the head. Very efficient and a joy to use.
Includes mask.
Photos to come shortly.
As far as I can tell, these aren't very easy to come by these days, usually out of stock...?
$130 incl US shipping via PayPal F&F.
Thanks!
