I will be reviewing these two hatchets soon. The point will be to see if the Gransfors is really worth the money.

Another Swedish vs American event, in the lightweight class.
Will it be an undercard match, before Operator's main event?
Or how about a tag-team match? :D

I havent searched if this has been done before. But who doesnt like a good match up??

We will consider this an opening event to Operators review!

Little update...

I will be selling the gransfors after this test so I will not be whopping on it very hard. What would everyone like to see? My idea was doing some kind of point system. Hatchets get a point for looks, one point for fit and finish, point for grain orientation, point for steel hardness (tested with file), 2 points for edge retention, 2 points for overall feel, and 2 points for actual chopping.

Any comments on this?

As a side note, the Council did not come with any manufacturer marks or stamps (just the stickers). I contacted Council about this to see if I could send it in and get it stamped just like their bigger axes OR if I could special purchase one stamped because I am pretty sure they stamp it while the metal is still hot.

humm, thats weird... my small council tool hudson bay is stamped... odd!

that point system sounds good to me;)

I have each one, so let me tell you the outcome.

GB >>>> Council.

Proceed to next project.

You and everyone reading this could have guessed that. The point of this review is to see if Council Tool can keep up with GB. Mainly for the middle/lower class people who like to get out on weekends but cant afford anything nice like the GB. I only have the GB because I got it on a trade, there is no way I could justify spending that much on a hatchet. SO if the Council can keep up with it in anyway, I believe it would be worth it. Especially considering Council's warranty if anything were to happen.

I contacted council about it and they told me they are stamped. Maybe I got an old one?

It doesnt matter - the GB for this instance is so far above and beyond, it is what it is.

So your saying that the Council WONT chop like the GB and it WONT hold an edge like the GB?

(FYI - I will be putting an edge on the Council to match the GB if that matters)

Nope. If you are going to alter it before hand, then, anyone could do that and make a flea market hatchet damn near a GB. But if you are going straight up out of the box, it is what it is.

You guys doing reviews need to get your s##t straight before just going at it.

If you havent noticed a couple posts up I asked what people would like to see. Wouldnt you think that my **** aint straight yet because I want to do what other people want to see? Whats the point of doing a review if people dont want to see it?

So.....Why not see if the GB is "better" than council+30 minutes sharpening? No need to get your panties up in a bunch. Reviewing an axe is way different than reviewing factory knives or something. Lots of different things to account for, putting 2 axes from the factory against each other (Which, I assume, is what OP1975 is suggesting) does not interest me at all.

Instead of sharpening the Council up to GB standards, why not dull the GB down to Council standards? It's the same thing.

If you're going to do the test, test them as they come from the factory. The "middle/lower class people who like to get out on weekends" aren't going to have the time or skills to put a fantastic convex grind on the Council. Dig?

I would make the time to file an axe for 30 or 40 minutes if it meant I would save 80 bucks over a GB.

No, I definitely don't dig. Why would the "middle/lower class people" not have the skills or time???? Makes no sense. What the hell does class have to do with any of it??!! What about the wealthy thrifty? It's irrelevant.

Agreed. Just because I cant afford the GB doesnt mean I dont have a metal file sitting in my tool box that was passed down to me.

Ill get the review done. There are a lot of trees down across the river from recent weather and I have a new kayak, this equation has to equal fun right?

I think Operator was thinking I was going to do the review with both of the hatchets as they come from the factory, but thats just not fair. Its like a 350z vs a Honda civic.
