With all the scams these days I thought I would start a thread to protect yourself from scams here on Bladeforums...

If you are a seller (to prevent your photos from being used in the future):
- make a sticky note with your user name and a date stamp and feature it in every photo in your sales thread. Evidence of a date stamp in each photo shows the photos are current.

If you are a buyer:
-As a condition of your offer - especially if you acquiesce to paying F&F! - insist that the seller send you a photo of the knife, with a date stamp and your username in the photo.

F&F is happening more and more so one extra step asking for this one photo may save you the pain of getting scammed.

If you are a seller, offer to provide one extra photo - especially if you are asking them to pay F&F.

Any other tips, feel free to comment below.

That's exactly what I asked for. I have to wait until he gets home from work. At least that's what I was told. I'm so stoked. I scored a brand new $170 REC Spyderco Shaman. It even comes with the poker chip. I hope he drives fast. 😁

Good suggestion about handwritten note to accompany At least that's what I was told. pics.

USE 2-STEP VERIFICATION FOR LOGGING IN!!!

actually saw your score, and that's the one that finally prompted me to post this thread, thinking, "enough is enough!" Hope it was a score and not a scam, brother.

My thought was this is kind of like 2-step verification, but for an actual sale.

It was not a score. I was being sarcastic.

2-step helps to prevent your account in being hacked in the first place. At least that's the hope.

Good idea for a thread. It seems to me that even with the photo, if you pay for it with F&F they can still rip you off if they want to.

I got scammed for $130 a month or so ago. After a lengthy squabble with VENMO though, they actually refunded me.
The guy that scammed me actually sent a date posted pic so he must have had the knife.
Most of the hackers want you to pay asap. Ask for an hour or so, most legit sellers will give you that, (as much as most of us want to pay promptly), then ask for some personal info such as their name and if their payment info address corresponds, its a pretty good indicator its legit as well. Its buyer beware anymore.
I now have a unique password for BF that isn't used on any other sites. Two step verification is a pain, especially when the BF site is constantly booting you off when on a mobile device. Hopefully an APP is in the near future???
