I don't know what this proves other than I know how to dull a knife rapidly...

Just some semi-destructive testing, thought I'd share the results. I counted about 24 hits. Seemed to me like a fairly good mix of chip and roll, no major chunks missing and no other damage to the knife and sharpened up good as new.

What?!? It didn't cut through it cleanly 24 times and still shave hair and halve standing rolls of newsprint? And you call yourself a knife maker! Maybe you should try my proprietary heat treating method that I've patented and make the blade into techniblo-it-out-your-ass-swootz. Then you'll be able to cut cinder blocks in half without so much as raising dust. I'll only ask you to buy me a Mr. Pibb, but if you don't, I'll sue you. ;)

My apologies to those who have no clue what I was babbling about above. :o

I'm curious as to what other makers think would be an acceptable amount of edge damage following such torture. I've read so many "I cut ___ ____ ____ and it still shaved hair" stories that it's hard to know exactly what to expect from a blade anymore.

I would say that it held up pretty good. I'll have to try that with my chopper that met the hurricane fence post. :o

I figure if I ever had a real world situation where I had to do that to a knife, maybe the 'saw blade' edge that remained would also come in handy at some point. :)
