Hackman Swedish Combat knife??????

Hackman as the eBay seller correctly posted makes knives in Finland. I have a Hackman puukko and a butterfly knife. I don't think they make any but kitchen knives anymore.

There was a thread a long time ago on the Hackman survival knife and a very similar copy which may have been Brazilian. This sale knife could be one of those, or just the sheath might be Brazilian with an original knife. I don't know what the odds are of a mint Hackman, though.

I have never seen cheap copies of this knife. I know that a model of this knife was made in Brazil - perhaps under licence, hence the Brazilian sheath.

That one you're looking at is as nice as any I have ever seen.

I don't know how common it is, but that is the same puukko I've got, that I bought from a Brookstone catalog for about $30 many years ago. Simple design, incredibly sharp and durable. The puukko isn't a bad combat design itself, at least in the hands of a Finn who knows how to use it. :)

They turn up on ebay regularly and, like this one, generally bring considerably over 100 bucks. Virtually any decent knife is a "combat" knife in the hands of the competent. ;)

Yes, I've got that same puuko and it served me very well as a hunting knife for many years. Excellent design and excaellent steel.

This knife in the pic is a Hackman survival knife. It is authentic. They were produced in the Vietnam era. It is correct to see them in a BRAZIL marked sheath. Later on, a cheaper version was produced by Garcia in Brazil. The Hackman is VERY high quality.

Bill Moran purchased (I think 100 or so) of the Hackman version to sell to troops heading to VN.....mainly because of his backlog. Bill re-edged them and equipped them with a sheath of his making. The factory sheath is kinda flimsy. The edge is pretty steep so it needs to be reprofiled to a degree.

It is a good and relatively rare knife and a mint version should go for about $350-400.

Yep, the knife is correct, Here's a bit more:

The knife was designed by Ken Warner and handle designed by Pete Dickey, and was then marketed by the Garica sporting goods company(best known for their fishing rods). The neat thing is that the saw teeth on the back have a kerf on them so they will cut wood.

The first batch was made by Hackman, but production costs were too high, so production was moved to Brazil. The knife company(Jucques(sp?)) lighted up the knife somewhat.

Bill Moran did buy 100 knives for sale to war bound troops. He re-sheathed, re-edged the knife as X-rayed stated. He did state that he had a few returned for blade tang - handle problems. The new sheathes were plain heavy duty affairs.

I can't speak as to the factory sheathes, I wonder why Hackman didn't do the work themselves, but other companies were importing their sheathes from south of the border, so any thing's possible.

The sharpening stone goes missing or broken quite a bit. It was a good sized affair, with a compass built into it.

The one you linked to on eBay is the genuine made-in-Finland Hackman item. I own one. Walked into a pawn shop one day fifteen years ago and got the puukko, the survival knife, and a butterfly knife (sort of a puukko blade) with red nylon handles, all by Hackman. The store owner said they were "foreign crap" and wondered why I would want them. Oh well. Sheath on the survival model was surprisingly light for the quality of the knife.

You were right on here, Xrayed. This knife brought $400
