Had a knife bite you didn't feel?

About a month ago, I was carving a little trinket for my girlfriend to put on her keychain. At one point, I was trying to remove a larger chunk of wood by pulling the knife toward me. The blade went through the wood, and sliced into the thumb on that same hand. It didn't hurt, but I knew it was bad when I saw the flap of skin hanging off my thumb. Turns out I also sliced through nearly a 1/4" of my thumbnail. 7 stitches later and my thumb is one piece again. Missed all the tendons, but there is still quite a bit of scar tissue and numbness on the side I sliced off. I'm just thankful it was a vertical cut, otherwise I may have been searching for the tip of my thumb.

By the way, Case's Chrome Vanadium gets very sharp.

Beleive or not, I actually got a "mystery cut" from my Becker BK7. Never in a million years expected that from a thick FB knife like the Becker!

My worst knife injury came from a case fixed blade hunting knife. I was working in a knife store and I was taking a knife out of the Case knives display to sell to a customer, and the knife was zip tied to the board and as I moved my hand up, it sliced a quarter inch deep into my finger nail bed. I didnt even feel it till I heard the dripping of blood on the floor and looked at my finger. It bled for 23 hours before I went to get stitches.

It really is quite amazing how well the human body is built to avoid serious injury. It's like some force knew we were going to do stupid things and built the body so that at least major damage could usually be avoided. So many times guys like us should have been irreparably injured, but give it a couple weeks and BAM, just like new...

The majority of the time I don't notice until I see the blood. It's probably because I run them on the DMTs and strop just about everyday day I use them so they're very sharp.

All my knives are close to hair splitting sharp. When I had idiotic moments most of the time I had to wait and watch my limbs to see if I'm cut, because most of the time I didn't feel it.

It mostly goes like this:
*snap*
Ok, am I cut? Am I cut?
*blood seeps out*
S*** I'm cut.

Walked through a Hallmark store in high school and sliced my finger on a chipped glass display stand. Had no idea but I was leaving a solid trail of blood all over the mall by the time I noticed....

Apebrains, I love the fact that you preface your story about stabbing cars, self injury and beating up obnoxious college kids with the idea that as a longboard skater you are less inclined towards fits of jackassery!

I don't think your story is helping you any! :p:p:p

Was cutting leather for a sheath once and had just stropped up my rc3 for the first time. Pulled the knife towards my thumb (bonehead move in hindsight) took a bit to start the cut then flew through the leather and into my thumb, didn't notice until i pulled the knife away and spurted blood on my sheat in progress. Cut closed up and by the next night didn't need a bandage, very clean cut. Ended up scrapping the idea I had for the sheath (was going to be for my old gerber gator) and made it into one for my rc3, bit of a blood stain and all, haven't polished the edge on it since I like it toothy now;)

Sigh......

LESS inclined, not totally abstinent.....I am a surfer too, so I guess that's another strike against me....

I lay myself at the mercy of my fellow BladeForumites.....please....have mercy :p:o:rolleyes:

No worries, I used to be a skater. I know how these situations tend to go. :foot:

it happens to me almost once a week. i'm a chef and use only high end japanese knives sharpened up to 10k grit. a slight contact is enough to open the skin and most of the time you won't feel it in the action. this type of cuts are really no big deal as there's usually no more than a drop of blood. more problematic cuts in the kitchen i usually feel it but it's very rare.

I'm in the process of convexing my recon scout and because I had it handy I stupidly used it to open the box of my newest purchase. Hey, overkill is what Cold Steel is all about, right? Anywho I got distracted and felt a little knock on my hand. I thought it was the cardboard until I saw a hunk of flesh from my knuckle still on the edge of the blade. And then the blood came.

I was closing my AFCK.
With my pinky finger in the way of the blade.
The Axis lock is a very strong detent

There was a skin flap.
