So last night around 11pm I get a phone call from my mom and she says that a bunch of the horses have ran through a fence and are currently running around the back yard. Great, just what I wanted to do, go chase horses in the mud.:grumpy: Seems like it happens a couple times a year. I guess its the whole "grass is greener on the other side of the fence" thing.
Start wading through the mud trying to find out how they escaped since all of the gates were shut. We have about two miles of fencing so I was in for a long evening. Finally figure out where the fence is down and get that fixed and then proceed to start catching horses and get them put away.
Two or three of the horses that were in the same area never got out so when I went up to the gate to open it they came up to me. Was just petting one waiting for the escaped convicts to return and then she sees her friends out in the yard. She proceeded to run me over and I got striped in the side of the head with a back hoof. I remember falling down and getting up head hurt a bit, no big deal. My mom and sister said what actually happened was I fell down, layed there in the mud until they got to me, they helped me stand up, I fell down again, got up, stumbled around and fell again. Then I stood up and yelled something at the horse that my mom would not repeat so apparently it wasn't very nice. I do not remember anymore than getting hit and then standing up. Weird.
So fast forward to all horses are put away and we are back in Mom's kitchen cleaning mud off of my face. I have a head ache but otherwise OK, few scratches, nothing big. Mom tells me I have to go to the emergency room to get checked out. I say I am fine and not to worry. Mom says we're going anyway. So being the good son I follow my mother's directive. I get to the emergency room and they start looking at my eyes, checking ears for bleeding, do an x-ray or something on my head make sure no swelling or broken bones I guess. The whole time the nurse is saying to another nurse that I must have something wrong cause I look like I want to go to sleep. Well duh. Of course I want to go to sleep it's like 2:30 in the morning by now.
Finally they are done using me for their science experiment and the doctor comes in. Apparently I am fine. My beer box shaped head has saved me again. I have a slightly bruised forehead and temple area, apparently under the skin cause I can't see anything and I have a mild concussion.
All in all, I am fine and having had concussions before I understand that it means a few days of headaches and may feel a bit tired. Finally got home around 4:00am and got a few hours sleep. Feel much better now. Luckily I have been trained to run on little sleep and the drinking has gotten me used to working under tired, headache like conditions.
Gotta love the life of a cowboy.LOL
Hope everyone had a good time in the ganza and scored everything you went for,
Garth
