• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Finished work yesterday at about 6am...I was wiped out but happened to have my bag in the car so I decided to double dose on coffee and head for the hills, and I'm glad I did the weather was beautiful..mid 70's and sunny by 8 am was deep in to the trail, followed it till I came across a fire lane which I followed till it came to a stream and than I followed that till it I felt sufficiently of the beaten path (identified some wild edibles along the way. Set up a practice shelter with my poncho. I had past over some wind swept peaks along the way, and the dead twigs up there where dry as bone so I filled my bag with kindling and tinder when my mock camp was set up I lit a little fire with the hotspark attatched to my sak and started working for some coals...WHile that was rolling I constructed a bowdrill and after several attempts got my first coal.. Cooked up some soup on the coals had a small nap, and took another route back which lead me past a really cool mtn pond that had so many redwing blackbirds around there there voice was all I could hear.. needed a few more cups of coffee for the ride home but it was worth it....

Those unexpected getaways seem to turn out to be the best ones  Sounds fun and much needed.

That sounds like an awesome trip man, glad you got out. It's hard to beat an afternoon nap in the outdoors!

And good job on the bowdrill coal!

Damn that sounds peaceful.

Thanks for the kind words guys... It was great, think I might have a new tuesday tradition.
I've got bow drill fever now...I showed my wife when I got hom..but for some reason she didn't find me generating friction smoke in the living room as cool as i did.

There is something about a nap in the woods. Great call on taking that hike Riley
