Posted this elsewhere, but I thought Id share it with th RAT bretheren as well...

I am sitting at home, fresh from the ER. Totaled my truck this morning on the way to work. Hit an icy bridge, and wiped out at 70mph. Happened so quick, yet in slow motion.

Hit the concrete rail at 70, head on. Jammes my shoulder in the A post, and slammed my ribs into the steering wheel, and somehow managed to hurt my neck too. Got a nice lac on my forearm. I was worried I was gonna flip off the bridge, but am gratefull it didnt happen. I was able to get myself out of the truck, and out of the way of oncoming traffic.

Well I ended up having to deal with MY ambulance which showed up after a passer by called 911. Ill never live THAT down.

After I told them I was OK, and couldnt get ahold of my wife, who was home sleeping after working a double at the hospital, another wreck came across the scanner, AND then ANOTHER wreck!!! All in all, 3 wrecks within a 1 mile stretch of road. One guy was fine, the other broke some ribs and rolled over his truck. So I hopped in with my ambulance crew and helped as much as I could with the pts... Road into the hospital with em, which happens to be a block from my house, so I walked home from the ED, after getting checked out.

2 vicaden later, im a little spacy, and in alot of pain. Couldve been worse. Still now have to deal with my truck which is parked at a conservation parking lot. Ill have to wait till I can rest a bit.

I came really close to flipping my truck over the bridge into the Lamine River. Got me thinking, and im happy to know I had my BOB in the truck and wouldve faired ok If I was able to get out of the truck. An emergancy blanket, FAK, and firestarting gear is comforting to have. Also the Stanley Fubar is a great tool. I used it 3 times this AM. Once to pry my fender off so I could drive it on the rim off the roadway, and twice popping doors on the wreck I worked after my wreck. GREAT TOOL!! get one if you dont have one.. One scary thing is I had my Gossman PSK in my pocket in a Kydex sheath, and when I hit, the blade went through the bottom of the sheath and stuck in my cigarette pack, stopping it from going into my thigh... Crazy....

Well, just thought id share my crazy story......and stress the point that you never know whats gonna happen out there, with the cold weather upon us, be sure you update your gear you keep in the truck, adding more cold weather items.

be safe out there guys...

Holy sh!t! Glad your ok! Very cool of you to help out some people after all that. I would have been chain smoking and freaking out about my truck.

Do you have the full size fubar?

WOW man! Glad you're ok. You're a double tough homie for going to help other people right after you had your own wreck. Good on ya brother.

Dang! I'm glad you made it out ok. Take it easy and get feeling better! I hate driving in the winter. My normal 25 minute commute in to work took 85 minutes this morning in the snow.

Thanks guys....It means alot to have people that care...

Bad thing is Im supposed to work a 36hr shift starting tommarow night. Knowing me, Ill probably go.

I was supposed to work 24 today also, so it was a busy week(24 on, 12 off, 36 on). Alot to be thankfull for. Im glad I got home ok, and everything was as good as it could be. I was 30miles out in the middle of nowhere, thank god I had cell coverage. Its nice to know I had everything I needed to patch myself up, and was prepared for the worst. I knew there was a reason I have all this gear.....lol...

It really couldve been bad. Im lucky. Ive seen far too many bad wrecks that people dont walk away from.

I'm glad you were able to walk away J. Really can't be too careful with that ice.

I was confused by your reference to "My ambulance." Are you a paramedic or was it your personal vehicle you were driving?

I'm glad that your okay, thats quite a spill you took. I also would like to comend you on your efforts to help others after you yourself had been injured. It show true character. Rest up and be safe out there.

Prayers sent and glad you are ok. You're right though, it could have been much worse. As you probably know, 70 mph on icy roads over a bridge is usually spells disaster and a broken bone or two if your lucky. Glad you walked away from that!

Glad your ok, and bravo for helping the others!! Almost did the same over the weekend, missed the guardrail inches and regained control but just barely, wasn't doing 70 thou!

Really surprised about the PSK/sheath thou.... I have had a bunch of them, and never even come close to putting the blade thru the sheath.... of course none of mine were ever rammed into the sheath at the kind of speed either.

Rest up Bro, try and chill, forget the truck til tomorrow....

Glad you are relatively ok buddy! As to work tomorrow, we both know how stiff you are going to be in the morning without an adrenaline dump. Take care of yourself first this time before going in.
take care man!

He wrecked his personal truck. "His" ambulance is because he's a paramedic.

The best to do (and we both know this) is rest. Your will not benefit your crew or anyone else if your hurt and not 100%. Do you have PTO (paid time off?) or sick days? I hope you feel better, get some sleep and rest.
