Have you ever had a knife that when finished it way exceeded your expectations (for whatever reason?) If so, please post some pics and explain why.
As a newbie knife maker, I just had this experience for the first time yesterday. This knife was the worse of a pair that I first ground when I got my Craftsman 2x42 last year. It is made from 1/8" O-1 steel, stainless pins, and what is supposed to be cocobolo but it doesn't look as red to me as most I've seen.
Anyway, this is completed blade #4 for me, and I'm blown away by how much I like it now that it's done. It had lots of issues (mostly crummy newbie grinding), some of which I was able to disguise pretty well, so perfection it is not. I was really finishing it as a test blade to see how I could do on HT of O-1 in my forge, since it was the one I liked least from the pair. I spent much less time on fit and finish as I have on previous ones, but it's kinda my favorite so far in some ways. Maybe just the design, size, profile (had Bird & Trout in mind when I drew it)...I don't know. I won't bother describing all of it's flaws, as that's not really the point of my thread.
Here are a few pics:
I'd enjoy seeing other folks examples of this, so let's see 'em!
