Had to Return CS Trail Hawk...

I just got the replacement today. It's bent too, but not quite as bad. It's still going back though. I guess this time I'll exchange it for a Husky hatchet, see how I do there!

If you haven't already tried this, you might want to try taking out the set screw and banging the head on tighter to see if it aligns on the handle.

Even if it did (which, from looking at it, I don't think it would), the actual head of the hatchet, the metal part, is still bent. It's got a nice, gentle curve all the way through, from the eye to the bit. It's too bad, too. I think it'd be fun to have around.

That's a shame. Can you post some pics of the misshapen head?

Also, post some pics of your Husky when you get it!

Sure have heard a lot of complaints lately about things coming from Amazon. Sorry your hawk wasn't right.

I'd say this is more of a cold steel issue and not Amazon's fault. The two trail hawks I ordered from manvetnureoutpost had the same problem, cold steel just doesn't have great quality control in my opinion.

Yeah I agree. I have no issues at all with Amazon. In point of fact, their return/refund process is the best I've ever used. It's good customer service that keeps me coming back.

As an aside, I decided to keep this last one anyway and play around with it. I removed the head from the handle and it's not as bent as it first appeared. The handle being turned a bit crooked didn't help matters. I spent several hours last night sanding and re-fitting the head to the handle and it's much better now. I took my Dremel tool to it with a sanding bit and removed most of the finish. I also concaved the cutting edge and am working on getting it in good shape. Once I finish, it should at least be usable.

I did cut down a well-seasoned holly tree (about 8" di.) last night. It took some work but it came down. This thing was really throwing some chips!

Thanks to all for the helpful input, I hope this will help others, too!

Glad you like it. If you get a paint stripper all of that paint will come off with no problems. I just convexed the edge of my trail hawk; It seems to make it chop better (i.e. the curve throws the chips away from the wood). It'll be more than usable.
