I had bought something similar to this for my ipod a few years back and thought what the heck I'll give it a go. This is the first Kydex additions that I will be using on my Jeep, more to come if I can manage it.

The biggest challange I had was getting the piece of wood I molded around, out of the Kydex. Actually I destroyed it in the process.:( I'll have to replicate it out of metal or cutting board material or somthing???

Enjoy!

Nice! I've been working on a similar design for my phone. If you destroyed a piece of wood I guess my phone's got no chance being hot molded. :o

Maybe try wrapping the wood in aluminum foil and giving it a good spray of oil.

Why not just place some holes in the center of the piece of stock used to form; and then just put your fingers in the holes and yank it out?! OR, just drill some holes in the end of the stock and attach some line to the stock; then yank it out of the kydex? No, I just slept in a Holiday Inn last night, I have no actual Kydex experience except owing some sheaths!

I think it had a little more to due with the shape of the wood. I think it should have had a bit of tapper to it for easier removal. The wood I used was taped up but it was ply. when I went to pry it out it came out in layers. But I think some white cutting board should do the trick!

Ah, I see. You could just use one of these to mold.

What is that? Gold plated iPod or something?

I'd say grab the dimensions and ask someone who has a mill to mill you a piece of steel with the same dimensions.

I'm pretty happy with how tight the fit is, should work well out on the trail.

.

Looks good Brother,

Just do not leave it out in the sun in the summer time, it will warp. made something like that for a guys, motorcycle & he left parked out in the hot AZ sun & the windscreen acted like a magnifying glass & warped all kinds of up

Looks nice though.

I think if you wait till after you form to put the eyelets in you would be able to get the wood out or use the cutting board material like you said.

Now that's a first for me...a kydex Ipod holder. I wonder what my kids would say if I got them each one?? Probably:barf:...but I think it's pretty cool:thumbup:

I could use something like that for condoms.
