How about a Kershaw Tremor? Large thick blade and costs about $30. Break it or lose it and the world wont end. I have one and it holds a good edge and is tough as nails. Large enough to baton if you must, and heavy enough for chopping. I haven't battoned with mine, but have cleared lots of brush and limbs with it and it is still as good as new and easy to sharpen back up to hair popping sharp.
A hard use or heavy work knife shouldn't have to cost a lot of money to be useful. Just my $.02 worth.
