I've never tried that.
I've always held a long hair suspended and then took a swat at it to cut the bottom half off. If I could half the same hair three times I was happy. Now I gotta do some tests to see which method is more difficult.
You know what's fun test to get obsessed with, but not as difficult? Take a fairly new paper bag; a department store shopping bag works really well. Get on your knees in front of the standing bag and take a swinging cut down on one of the short sides of the bag. See if you can make it all the way to the floor before the bag wrinkles.
Try that and your home will quickly empty of all paper bags.
