Recommendation? HAK or HIDEAWAY KNIFE

I ordered a knife after considerable dialogue with the present owner. Will update when I have something to add. Thanks for all the help.
 
One of these might be fun to have in the Jeep instead of a strap cutter for seatbelts.

Who is marketing this?
 
I had looked at these a few years ago, when I was looking for a self defense knife for carry....
Finger hole knives are lousy in fighting situations because the knife can break Your fingers pretty easily, if taken away from you in the scuffle or if it gets Stuck in them..... I prefer push/punch daggers or TDI style knife handles...
For many reason, that might deviate from the topic.... :D

The Emerson LaGriffe is OK, but the geometry is terrible.

The Spyderco SWICK is the way to go IMO.

I'm surprised that HAK is still around.

Having carried a HAK for years and pressure tested the design in trainer format, I have not come across this as an issue. All that protrudes from your hand is the blade. If your attacker goes for a disarm, or the like, you'll cut the offending appendage up something wicked. Remember, you have many limbs to strike with. The knife should be supplemental to your skills, not the focus.
 
I see a lot of speculation here. Who has actually handled the design, properly fitted, at length?

Having owned three HAK's, an emerson Lagriffe, A Spyderco SWICK and SPOT, and a Pikal Lagriffe by Ban Tang (my second favorite blade of this type) I can say that the HAK is by far my top pick. It's the least obtrusive, most secure in hand, and the two-finger grip is more secure than the index finger only of the lagriffe profile. There is way more leverage to be used against that design than the capsule of the HAK. I tested this extensively in 2012 with several participants coming to the same conclusion.
 
Hi - Thank you all for contributing replies to my inquiry. Wanted to follow-up. The knife and trainer I ordered came. It took a long time, but not William Ericson's (HAK owner?) fault. The tracking information said it was the USPS. The knife was the wrong size. I contacted him and he sent me a knife and trainer two sizes larger. He did not ask me to pay for another set as some vendors might, but rather trusted me with the return process. He also answered my questions and provided some free accessories (extra sheath and such), along with a pre-paid return envelope (so I did not have to deal with the USPS). So I have to say that the entire transaction was handled very nicely. As an aside, I think a leather sheath would better suit my purposes. Not keen to drop the knife in the mail, so if anyone knows a leather maker that carries a sheath for these, it would be appreciated.
