based on the handle sizes, the HAK is better suited for concealment & last-ditch self-defense, while the Swik can serve a more "utility" function while offering less concealability.
I have 3 HAKs and while they are never my primary blade, I would have no problem using one all day for decent use. A simple design is not necessarily bad ergonomically. You really gotta try one to appreciate how well they lock into place in your hand. Especially with a layer or 2 of cord wrapping.
