Although I like the look and feel of the green outer layer of G10, in general, which undoubtedly provides a better grip, I occasionally prefer to remove the green outer layer, in order to achieve what I consider to be a more tactical appearance, exposing and utilizing the underlying black layer of G10. Despite the inferior grip to the green G10, it still provides a comfortable handle, with an adequate grip, whilst invoking an appearance, worthy of Benchmade's "Black Class", notwithstanding its status as a member of the "Blue Class".

Notice the slightly reprofiled section of the blade above the serrated portion, now with a rounded taper leading to the serrations, which gives the upper middle section of the blade, somewhat of a deep bellied appearance, which has been extremely effective for cutting. Notably, the serrations are far more accessible, usable and closer to the lower outer edge. The serrations, which now intervene much more when cutting and slashing, have become RIDICULOUSLY razor sharp, after the recent sharpening and mild reprofiling, adding a huge boost to the self defense dimensions and aspects of the knife. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of them.

Removing the green outer layer also provides the convenience of direct and immediate access to the pivot screw, which is otherwise situated under the green G10 layer, requiring the removal of a screw, at the very minimum, allowing the G10 layer to turn away from blocking the pivot screw.

Is this Part 2 of something begun elsewhere? I feel like I"m coming in after the commercial....

They're sure trying to make that look like an Emerson.

Sure doesn't look like an emerson to me.

Knife looks awesome man. Did you customize it yourself?

Lol!! I suppose a prequel may be in order, but I know threads already exist with regard to the Vicar, including a discussion as to the issue of the double layer of G10, the top one being the gritty green, referenced in my post, the black secondary G10 layer and the dubious distinction of the pivot screw being under the top layer of green G10 and thus not readily accessible.

To make a short story long, I sought not to be redundant and repetitive, so I avoided regurgitating a review or providing information already discussed elsewhere, herein.

But, I'd be more than happy to provide a prequel. In fact, I'm sure it would act as a very effective insomnia cure for those plagued therewith. Lol

Thanks, bro. As far as the blade customization is concerned, no, I am not up for a task of that magnitude, as of yet. But I'm getting there.

However, I did perform the arduous (self deprecation / sarcasm) task of removing 4 screws and the green G10 layers. Fortunately, I had 4 old but highly functional, very short screws, collected from older Benchmades over the years. This was important, as the screws that were in the knife, contemplated 2 layers of G10 and were therefore too long for the underlying black layer of G10, by itself. The screws that were in the knife originally would have made contact with the blade.

I also had to center the blade, which was annoyingly and astonishingly way off center, to the extent that it would rub against the lock side of the liner. It was a pain in the ass to center, due to certain characteristics of the build of the Vicar.

I have a bunch of ten dollar Chinese knives I use to practice profiling and reprofiling, etc., which came with perfectly centered blades, whereas whomever is running the show over at the Benchmade facilities had the balls to allow a knife with a $300.00 MSRP to leave the facilities with a blade off center to the point of causing damage had I done nothing about it. Well, at least they have a good sense of humor. Lol.

In any event, I love the knife, particularly as customized above, but also prior thereto.

Love the look although I prefer a non serrated blade. This is how I wish Benchmade made would have released this knife. Well maybe the single layer scale and a standard clip. I've come close to pulling the trigger on the Vicar a couple times

Thanks. I like to maintain a healthy balance between serrated and non serrated blades, as far as my collection is concerned, the decision of which is ordinarily determined by my intended purpose for the knife.

I must say, however, these are the sharpest serrations I have ever encountered. The blade customization has made the serrated portion far easier to utilize effectively when intended, which based upon their outrageous sharpness, is a good thing.
