Although I like the look and feel of the green outer layer of G10, in general, which undoubtedly provides a better grip, I occasionally prefer to remove the green outer layer, in order to achieve what I consider to be a more tactical appearance, exposing and utilizing the underlying black layer of G10. Despite the inferior grip to the green G10, it still provides a comfortable handle, with an adequate grip, whilst invoking an appearance, worthy of Benchmade's "Black Class", notwithstanding its status as a member of the "Blue Class".
Notice the slightly reprofiled section of the blade above the serrated portion, now with a rounded taper leading to the serrations, which gives the upper middle section of the blade, somewhat of a deep bellied appearance, which has been extremely effective for cutting. Notably, the serrations are far more accessible, usable and closer to the lower outer edge. The serrations, which now intervene much more when cutting and slashing, have become RIDICULOUSLY razor sharp, after the recent sharpening and mild reprofiling, adding a huge boost to the self defense dimensions and aspects of the knife. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of them.
Removing the green outer layer also provides the convenience of direct and immediate access to the pivot screw, which is otherwise situated under the green G10 layer, requiring the removal of a screw, at the very minimum, allowing the G10 layer to turn away from blocking the pivot screw.
