I have couple 3 inch blades that have serrations for half the blade.I do not find these blades very useful for cutting most materials. What are your opinions ON THE SUBJECT

Useless in my opinion. The only knife I own with serrations is the Spyderco Civilian and I understand the reason for it. But a half serrated blade for a utility knife makes no sense to me:stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid: Just my .02

I can sometimes see its utility on a longer blade, only just. But not on a knife that small, no.

Half-serrations piss me off and they don't work. Half-serrations just half-ass two things at once, I prefer a knife that can whole-ass one thing.

Right your are OP, this topic comes around fairly often with the variant " do you like serrations on your knife?" On a three inch knife 1 and 1/2 inch of PE and 1 and 1 1/2 inch of serrations really aren't enough to be useful. IMHO a 7 inch serrated bread knife works great for its intended purpose, other than that give me a PE. Oh by the way hitting the search function on this topic should provide you with hours of interesting opinions.

My Delica 4 with partial serrations has served me well on my boat over the last few years. It stays on the boat year round, I only fish the OBX, so salt water exposure is the norm, and will be replaced this coming summer with a couple of Salt's I purchased. The odd thing is that the knife has yet to rust (VG-10), I've never sharpened it, and it has scaled, cleaned, gutted, and filleted plenty of Black Sea Bass, small tuna, and mahi with ease. To be sure, there are better knives for my hobby, knives that would have made my dressing fish much easier, but the combo edged Delica 4 was able to handle the job when there were more folks than knives to clean up our catch.

The blade on my SwissTool Spirit (on my belt at all times) is a full-serrated sheepsfoot. The blade on my pocket knife of the day is always plain-edged. That way I'm fully covered either way.

Either full serrations or full plain blade for me. I HATE the 50% serrated blades. Full serrated I have a couple as rescue type blades keeping one in my car and I always carry another when on a boat or using my climber stand when deer hunting.

On a 3", either go plain edge or full serration.

Combo edges just don't work for me.

Fisheater said it best, my sentiments exactly. Nothing worse than a useless 50/50 blade. What the F can you do with a 1.5 inch plain edge, not much. With a serrated edge of the same length, use it in a sawing motion...NOT!

One wAS a gift and few others just cheap value knives. One is Buck Vantage ,13c26, excellent fit and finish and quality, just combo edge makes it almost useless.

I am not a fan of them myself, but if, IF they are going to offer 1/2 and 1/2 why would the serrations be near the scales when they are generally used as a slashing blade?

Put the serrations up front and plain in the back, like on that one really small boker. At least then you could use each to their potential.
1 1/2" serrated up front for slashing
1 1/2" plain in back for notching, cutting small cord, various things that would require you to choke up on your knife.

As far as the gifted knives, grind the serrations out then re profile the rear section for a steeper angle for heavier duty cuts, making feather sticks with less touch ups needed in between uses, making tent stakes...

You can have a shallow grind up front for more delicate work and a steeper one in the back with a clear line between them. I have seen this done and while I am not a fan of the looks, I can see the utility in it.

Im 50/50 on them. For cheaper knives i may get a combo edge (under $50) but more expensive (in my book $70+) ill get a plain edge. When the serrations go dull I'm not going to spend a day trying to sharpen them. Plus in my edc i find i mainly need plain edge, and working with my dad having a combo edge or disposable razor knife is useful. The only reason why i like the idea of a combo edge is just the added benefit in a shtf situation and only that. Its 2AM and i haven't had any sleep in 36hrs so I'm sure I'm rambling by now.

Personally, I only buy plain edge knives. If I did buy a knife with serrations it would be a fully serrated Spyderco Salt in H1 or a Spyderco Civilian. The salt, because of the supposed better edge retention due to work sharpening during the process or adding serrations.

I would never own a 50/50 serrated knife because in my opinion they are just designed to appeal to people who think they look cool (mall-ninjas). They serve almost no purpose, and as another member stated, they just half ass two jobs.

Also, as numerous people have said on other posts and forums, a sharp plain edge cuts anything just as well as a serrated edge. I'm not including steak knives or knives that cut on ceramic surfaces because that is totally different topic.
