It has been a while since I have completed any Halibut knives.
I designed these because I wanted a blade that was small, but wasn't just a 3 finger grip. I cant stand those, (personal preference, I just don't like how they feel when I hold them)

I made these so that the little finger lands in the cup on the butt of the knife. It works very well.

This one is 1084, clay quenched with a hamon. The spine is fileworked.

The handle is cocobolo held in place with one of my mini mosaics, and some regular pins.

The sheath is leather and designed for in the pocket carry with the boot clip.

There is an in the hand pic for dimensions and to see how well it fits in my decent sized paws.

Here are the dimensions
Blade - 3" tip to handle
OAL - 6 1/4"

Price - $115 shipped in US. I prefer paypal to mlwbailey@yahoo.com, but will accept check or money order.

The first "I'll take it!" gets it.

Matt, Paypal has been sent and it will take a few days for e-check to clear. Hope that's okay. I'm really so excited that I got one of your knives as the design and craftsmanship are always so aesthetically 'right' looking. I'm lookin' forward to the handling of this this small knife w/ the fourth finger notch - ingenious - your design? And to boot it looks like a shark. My first custom knife. Yeehaw! :D Thanks again, John.

Monkeybutt, not a problem waiting for the e check to clear. I will send it out as soon as it does. I will be boxing it up tonight.

As far as I know it is my design. I have not seen it before and I came up with it for these knives, but with knives, it is hard to tell if it is truly an original design. Either way, I have not seen one like it.

I call it the halibut because it looks like a fish to me, and I made the first one just for the "halibut". (my jokes dont get any funnier, sorry)

I have a few ready for hand sanding (yuk) and one ready for heat treat. I plan on getting them all ready for hand sanding by friday, then spending all day friday hand sanding. Plan on a couple of weeks to completely finish.

I got this knife a few days ago and it is a really nice piece. I had expected a small, pretty , but somewhat delicate knife. But from first handling this Halibut is solid and notch gives four finger control/leverage. The file work, handle contours, the pinning, hamon, and blade grind display excellent attention to detail. Almost too nice to use...almost 'cause using it will give an excuse to get some more. Already had some fun remolding the sheath from R hand boot to belt carry.
Matt, thanks for the knife and look forward to aquiring more of your work if I can ever be lucky enough to ever again beat the other trigger fingers around here. Oh, one more thing. Just curious to what yer logo signifies - looks like three crosses in a semicircle. Thanks, John

Monkeybutt, Glad you like the knife. I really like the feel of these Halibut knives, someday I will actually keep one, but they seem to go out the door pretty quickly. The logo is the three crosses at Calvary.
