Halloween Knife Scare, Need Your Help

Getting some great suggestions guys. Hadn't even thought about a neck knife. That's why I love group thought. 100 brains will always be smarter than 1 brain.

I used to run security teams (bouncers :) ) in various clubs and bars and do close personal protection for almost two decades - don't bring a knife to a bar/club. Now, having said that, I loooooove my knives and I know how not carrying one just feels so wrong - so don't advertise (pocket clip) that you have one if you're still going to take one to the bars. I routinely confiscated knives almost every night and I had no problem returning them to the patrons as they exited but more times than I can count, said patrons were a little too intoxicated to remember to either ask for me or for their knives on the way out. Lame way to lose a blade so unless you aren't much of a drinker I would suggest something easily replaceable.
A potentially hidden aspect to this question is this: I'm not sure what kind of town you're from but I spent the last decade of said work in a pretty wild city on the West Coast with a lot of gang violence, etc. If I confiscated a blade from someone as he/she entered (assuming entry was even granted), depending on certain factors, that person was instantly on my "to watch" list. Also, if there was a potential issue with a patron and either myself or someone on my team knew this person to be in possession of a knife, this person would be dealt with in a far more serious and "abrupt" manner. Having been the recipient of a few knife wounds, taking chances was not high on my list of priorities. I only mention this because I feel it's pertinent to your posed query, and as someone who admittedly likes to get "rowdy" and have fun at bars, chances are you have already been on the radar in a situation or two. ;) I don't mean to be preachy, I just don't want you to lose a good blade or bring down any unwanted heat on yourself for something that shouldn't be a big deal but to some it is. Not everyone is a knife nut (I know, I don't get it either LOL!). Cheers.

ive bounced bars myself, and ive never took a mans knife once. i always asked rowdy folks to leave before a situation even developed and if they looked too intoxicated,
i didnt let them in the door in the first place. seemed simple enough

Get yourself a nice belt sheath or deep pocket carry.

I've never had any luck with pocket clips.

Especially while working.

Great reply. And I don't live in any area like that. Just a simple college town with young kids lookin' to score. And I actually know most of the bartenders and door guys at the bars I frequent so getting in is no big deal and although i might get intoxicated, i dont start fights. I do agree with everything you said, however. Very good advice.

You could just carry a SAK Tinker. But if you need something that locks get a CRKT Drifter. I don't use the clip on the Drifter, I let it just fall into my pocket. Neither of those is difficult to replace and will not attract much attention if you use them.

Wait, wait, wait, wait a minute.

A knife clipped in your Front pocket ended up clipped to another dude's BACK pocket?

Let me get a mental picture of just how that could happen...

If you're planning on getting drunk or rowdy then I strongly suggest you leave the knife, gun, slingshot, pepper spray, or wallet chain at home. Seriously, sharp pointy objects and drunks don't mix well.

hahahahah, lol one of the better posts I have seen to date. lol

This is what i want to know. its so tightly packed in the bar you have to literally bump uglies with another bloke just get past?sounds as if you would not have room enough to deploy that knife anyway. I hate overcrowded places.dont care how much p####y or how good the beer is.

Not to get off topic here but something tells me we probably worked in very very different avenues. :) It's all good though, just throwing my two cents into the mix. Cheers.

I'd say just get a SAK. I can't foresee a knife application that happens in a bar that it wouldn't take care of. Heck, you can stab olives with the toothpick. No clip, deep in tour pocket, easily replaceable, and not pricey.

Leave the "big" and/or "good" knife in the car....you are not going to use it in the bar anyway.
yeah, but you can't play that drunken knife hand game with a non locker :D

oh im sure we ARE talking about completely different establishments and environments. my post wasnt meant to take a jab at ya, just throwing in my .02 as well LOL

My suggestions would be for:
Spyderco Dragonfly 2
Spyderco Squeak
Or
Spyderco UKPK

All less than $50, can be found easily, all have a deep carry wire pocket clip that clip easily, but tight enough to not just disappear, decent steel, and relatively small. Those would be my choice.

Or do the lanyard trick. I used to tie a lanyard onto my knife with a lobster clip or something at the end that would clip to my belt loop and the knife clipped securely to my pocket. That way if it fell out or someone tried to grab it, it'd be safe.

You have got a lot of advices and I will not give You one more.
I will just tell You how I act when I go to town.

I don't go to bars anymore as I quit drinking more than ten years ago.
Taking a knife to a bar where I live is also against the law.

I carry whatever knives I need when working, fixed and/or folding.
When I go to town off work, I always leave the knives at home and only take a SAK Camper.
The Wenger Bartender shown above was new to me and I will have a look at that model.

Take Care
Mikael
